Volume 2 Chapter 8 [Kingdom SIDE] Valzeil's Reasoning
Don't forget, the Adventurers are moving not just in Dragonstone Kingdom, but also in Diamante Kingdom.
"...'Court Adventurers', huh?"
Valzeil is looking at the report with a suspicious look.
"Many Adventurers are coming to the royal capital. Some high-rank guilds too. Many Adventurers are saying we should make this kind of system."
Hearing the extra info from his underling, Valzeil strokes his chin...
"What do you think... No, let me say my opinion first. I think it's 'questionable'."
"That's true. Also, Divine Blood Travels. Theocracy Nation, Bloodline Nation, and the Adventurers Guild are all balanced now."
"That's right. The one who suggested this doesn't understand that this is an 'act of invasion'."
The Adventurers Guild is supposed to be 'neutral'.
Taking sides with a country goes against neutrality, but helping people is good, before neutrality matters, so every country lets them take quests, it solves problems.
But making a 'Court Adventurers' to be 'important to the country' is an 'act of invasion'.
"If this goes through, it will be a 'precedent to create Court Adventurers in many countries.' This is 'the Adventurers Guild invading the countries'."
"Originally, the Adventurers don't get much protection from the country's power. They can solve things with other Adventurers, so they 'look down on the country'..."
"So it's become obvious, huh? They're looking down on us."
Valzeil puts the report on the desk and sighs.
"Those guys think 'Court Adventurers' is like 'Adventurers recognized by the country', or something?"
"I think so too, from what I hear."
"Then it's the 'Court-Exclusive Adventurers'. They're still 'separate from the court'. You can't just take Adventurers and shove them 'inside' the court."
They're neutral, they don't take sides with any country.
That's true, but first, they have the right to 'solve complaints'.
Sometimes it takes a long time to fix those complaints, so that's why 'exclusive' is a thing.
Someone used that little difference to get high-rank Adventurers all riled up.
"Hmm... How do the people in the Royal Capital feel about this?"
"They're not happy. There might be riots."
"What's the most common opinion?"
"From what I've heard, the most common one is 'I don't like it, just a feeling', but after that, it's, 'Letting Adventurers serve like that is stretching the meaning of neutral'."
"Then, this thing isn't needed. Why are they trying to do something nobody likes..."
"But..."
"Some people, 'the ones who rely on Adventurers instead of nobles', think we need 'Court Adventurers' to control the Adventurers coming to the Royal Capital?"
"That's right."
"...I'll say it again. They're looking down on us."
Valzeil sighed.
"But, let's let it go for a while. I still can't see who's behind this."
"If we stop it halfway, other countries might copy it. We need to make an example... But, how do we control the people in the Royal Capital in the meantime?"
"Let's see if they show their hand."
"Understood."
"...Ugh, studying history isn't just memorizing. Most people don't know that a country that made a system like this 'Court Adventurers' 100 years ago, fell apart in just a few years."
Valzeil mumbled... He seems to have remembered something.
"Speaking of which, that 'antenna'... It should reach the Hero's mansion soon, isn't it?"
"Certainly, I think so too."
"...I could say a lot of things, but for me... I'm gonna hold off on getting cocky in that town for a while."
"Same here."
"Every tactic has its 'range.' You gotta know how far it can reach and in which direction. That's how you can dodge things. But... if there's an 'antenna' that creates a crazy 'range,' and Horace can use it freely..."
"If you stay too defenseless, you never know what might happen with stray bullets."
"Yeah."
"Plus, Horace has been using it for almost ten years and understands its structure."
"And since it will belong to Horace, some modifications are possible."
"It could literally become Horace's exclusive item, and we can't predict how wide it could spread if that happens."
"A lot of Adventurers are flowing into Dragonstone Kingdom as well. There's probably someone scheming... but once the antenna is active, Horace won't care about that stuff. It's just such a good 'toy.'"
"It'd be smart to lay low until things cool down."
"Right. By the time we notice all the justice and evil in Dragonstone Kingdom, we might just trample over it."
Valzeil closes his eyes and thinks.
"...Plus, unlike this town, Dragonstone Kingdom is easier to get important rare minerals for Golem Masters. Who knows what could really happen?"
"What should we report to the merchant guild that we sent to Dragonstone Kingdom?"
"Let's retreat back to the nearest town from Jewel City Lapis and keep an eye on things."
"Then it's settled."
"Yeah."
Valzeil opens his eyes, looks out the window, and gazes at the sky.
...The hero community, known as 'Adventurers,' defeated the Demon Lord and saved the world, setting the stage for Adventurers to get cocky.
In reality, more and more people are probably dreaming of becoming Adventurers.
If they can't 'know their place' on top of that, it will all come crashing down eventually.
If a world is made where Adventurers can serve the government, a 'country relying on Adventurers' will be born.
Adventurers can enter any country using their neutrality as cover.
Saying it's okay to serve the government in such a state is just like 'failing immigration policy.'
What kind of disaster will a country that fails at immigration face?
And a hundred years ago, that disaster actually happened.
"...Adventurers, huh. Since they're split from Divine Blood Travels, we can't push them too hard, but as king, there's stuff I gotta show."
