Volume 4 Chapter 16 [Gaspar SIDE] The Treasure is Mine!
Deep within the bowels of Sevenstar Academy lies a treasure, slumbering.
It's a phrase you'll often hear around this school.
"A treasure, you say? Hm. I see... Let's collect it and take it home."
Gaspar Redless has also caught wind of this information.
He's in the infirmary, resting after a toy frog hit him square in the gut, but he has no memory of it.
He's supposed to have just fallen over there, but he seems to be settling down now.
And that's when the news of the 'treasure' came in.
There's no way he wouldn't react to that.
In a small country's school, the mention of a treasure might end with a dismissive "Hmph," but this is Sevenstar Academy.
It's the Great Mine of Gold World (Kinsekai), a dungeon that the world craves for its metal production.
If something is named a 'treasure' here and is still passed down, it's likely to be something quite 'valuable'──that much is common sense.
"Hey, go collect that treasure. We'll take it back to our homeland."
""Hah!""
Gaspar addresses his companions who are with him.
...He can't forget the shock he received through the ring he's wearing, and he's not adorned with any magic tools.
Therefore, he's contacting his homeland using a communication magic tool to summon his companions.
By the way, when he told his companions about being shocked by the ring, their reaction was a '?' but that can't be helped.
Magic tools, after all, are structured to react to mana with 'symbols' etched inside them.
To put it simply, they should 'only activate specific effects.'
So, the idea of a 'ring discharging electricity' is completely out of the ordinary.
...In other words, even when he said it discharged, they couldn't believe him at all, but that's to be expected since he's known for his string of failed experiments.
"There's a chance they found some valuable metal from Great Mine of Gold World (Kinsekai). Heh, to store something so valuable in a place with such weak security──that's typical of the ignorant, poor countries, always foolish."
Gaspar says this with a twisted smile.
His point is partly right.
No matter how important it is, if you can't protect it, it's all meaningless.
That's an undeniable fact.
But... relying on just one point to believe my plan will definitely succeed──that's pure stupidity.
The fact is, there's a clear phrase: "the underground school," and no one has found it.
Of course, the treasure might be fake, or even if it's real, someone may have already taken it.
We should first ask if it even exists, but honestly, if your mind isn't considering that, you're probably not all there.
His brain seems barely able to avoid scams──probably already fell for one──and who knows what will happen.
* * *
"Dad. He definitely plans to chase after the 'treasure,' doesn't he? Hah... I hope nothing bad happens."
Gaspar's son, Guilhem, looks like he's starting to get a stomach ache.
The items in his hands are various documents.
It seems he's been stacking books and researching.
"...The treasure in the school's underground. It probably exists. But... I have no idea how to get in."
Whether he plans to do something or not, he's investigating. It looks like he's confirmed the 'treasure exists,' at least.
But he has no clue where the treasure is──despite the clear phrase 'underground,' he hasn't found the secret door.
"...Well, if it's Mister Horace, he'd notice if there's a 'subterranean' thing. There haven't been recent signs, so maybe he already found it and it's not urgent... I wonder."
In the skill 'Golem Master,' it's clear that 'earth magic' is involved, if you look into it.
And by combining earth-attribute magic with 'detection' magic, it's possible to scout out what's underground.
In other words, it wouldn't be surprising if Horace had already found it.
And he could probably sneak in there too.
"...It's still too early to imagine the real thing."
The investigation has barely begun.
Well, while Guilhem's looking into it, there's a high chance his father will 'do something reckless,' which is really depressing...
"What the treasure is, what ends up happening to Dad... it all depends on Mister Horace's judgment, huh."
Guilhem arrived at a conclusion that left no one happy.
