Volume 6 Chapter 97 Leave It to the Experts
After Ragnar and the Imperial forces pulled back, Randy and the others hurried back toward the royal capital.
Thanks to Lucius' teleportation, Randy and the others arrived back...
"The rooftop?"
...Just like Catherine tilted her head, it really was the school rooftop.
Seeing Catherine look like she was about to ask why, Randy motioned to the edge of the roof with his chin, "Take a look."
There should have been a front gate over there.
Catherine and Liz cautiously made their way toward it, and when they looked...
"Wow..."
"Yeah... I get it. You're all worried, right?"
...In the front yard leading to the main gate, a large group of students had gathered.
On the street visible from the main gate, Imperial flags were flying, and a bunch of Imperial soldiers and knights strutted around like they owned the place.
If they had teleported to the courtyard or anywhere else, they'd definitely have drawn attention.
For Lucius, who wanted to gather intel, being surrounded by students in this situation was probably not ideal.
"Victor..."
"Yeah. You're going off to gather information, right?"
Lucius nodded and, feeling bad about dispersing them in such a place, disappeared again with a teleportation.
"So it really fell..."
Catherine muttered, then suddenly looked up with a startled expression, "What about... home?"
Thankfully, there was no sign of fire from anywhere in the noble district, but from here, it was impossible to know the full situation.
Catherine staggered toward the noble district but then, as if something occurred to her, she turned and sprinted toward the doors leading back into the school.
"Miss Catherine!"
At Randy's shout, Catherine replied, "Sorry, not the time for this!" and kept running, but Randy caught up and grabbed her hand.
"Wait. In this chaos, even if you run, you won't make it."
"Then what should I──"
Randy told the anxious Catherine, "Calm down," and glanced back at Ellie.
Ellie, understanding everything from Randy's expression, let out a small sigh.
"Very well. I owe you anyway. Something like this? Even as I am now, that's easy."
Ellie nodded, then took Catherine's hand in Randy's place.
"Wait, what's going on?"
"I've got no clue where your place is. So you're showing the way, got it?"
Ellie grinned, making it clear she planned to rapid-fire teleport all the way to Catherine's house.
Ellie let out a cocky laugh, "Just leave it to me." That was all Leon needed to hear──he dove in and grabbed Catherine's other hand, "O-oh, me too! Please!"
"Wait, short-range teleport──Wait, we're in the──"
She didn't get to finish.
Ellie blinked out of sight, reappearing way up above the academy.
And then──gone again.
Over and over, she flickered away toward the noble quarter, shrinking into the distance.
Ellie made it look like nothing, but this was seriously advanced magic──one after another, nonstop.
She nailed every new set of coordinates in a flash, barely even pausing.
Only possible because Ellie had mastered Multiple Chanting.
Not just anyone gets to call themselves an ancient great magician──Randy and Liz just watched her go, both genuinely impressed.
"Alright, let's go see what we can find out."
Randy said it with a little determination.
Liz glanced uneasy but nodded.
Given the king's ties to Braubelg, nothing bad had happened to them──yet.
Still, Braubelg was part of the kingdom.
That wouldn't change.
Nobody could stop thinking about what would happen to Braubelg now that the capital had fallen.
"His Excellency and Sir Cedric'll be fine."
"...Yeah."
Liz nodded, then slapped her cheeks──trying to snap herself out of it.
"Should we just jump to the Cathedral for now?"
"Yeah, let's."
If you wanted good intel, you needed someone with real standing.
The Cathedral had Archbishop Ridley, and above all, they actually knew him.
Getting information would be way easier.
Plus, now that Ellie had dropped Catherine at home, odds were good she'd bring her straight to the Cathedral next.
With that thought, Randy and Liz decided to teleport straight to the Cathedral's rooftop.
"Ugh. Everywhere you look, it's nothing but Imperial soldiers and knights."
Randy sighed as he peeked down at the street from the Cathedral rooftop, "They're really dedicated, huh?"
"So the city really did fall, huh?"
Liz frowned, her brows furrowing with worry as she sat down on the edge, looking out at the street.
"Eh, they won't hurt civilians, probably."
As Randy said, the only sound they heard was the Empire's soldiers chasing after what seemed to be the Pilgrims of Truth.
They had stirred this mess themselves, a bit of a match made in hell.
But to the unsuspecting people, the Empire's presence probably felt like a welcome relief.
"What should we do? Wait for Ellie?"
Randy muttered while looking down the street, "I guess..." when suddenly, a familiar presence appeared inside the Cathedral.
"Looks like she's back... probably in Miss Catherine's office?"
Randy pointed in the direction of Catherine's office, and sure enough, it was the right way.
So, Liz teleported them both straight to Catherine's office.
In the blink of an eye, the scenery shifted to the familiar office they had visited a few times before.
Catherine's desk, with a sofa placed in front for guests.
Everything looked fancy, as expected of Catherine, but strangely, there was nothing off-putting about it.
And there, sprawled out on the sofa, was Ellie, lounging comfortably.
"I knew you'd show up."
"I figured you'd be here too."
Ellie's smile was smug as she waited, and Randy nodded with satisfaction.
"So? Where's Miss Catherine?"
"She just got back and took off with some kid, said she had things to do."
Ellie pointed toward the door, and Randy nodded.
"Got it," he said, walking toward it.
"Where are you going?"
Ellie frowned and stood up, watching Randy.
"I figured I'd see if I could help with anything."
Randy tried to keep helping out, saying they'd stick around since everyone had taken care of them.
Liz started to raise her hand──"Me too..."──but Randy shook his head, stopping her.
Neither Liz nor Ellie was anywhere close to being fully recovered.
Even inside the Cathedral, with all this chaos, anything could happen, anywhere, at any time.
On top of that, getting separated and sent off to help alone?
That was out of the question.
