Volume 7 Chapter 14-2 There Is One Person In School, Not Noticeable But Actually Amazing
"I see... An enlarged copy using the diffusion and convergence of light?"
Noah is indeed excellent at immediately grasping things.
"Would you like to look at the lens too?"
"Sure."
Noah happily put on gloves and slowly removed the lens to begin examining it closely.
"Amazing. Such a perfect spherical surface..."
Noah started muttering, and Randy showed a wry smile, thinking, "He's a strange one."
Liz whispered, "Noah is Count Arcline's son. Central Nobility... He's the son of the Count Arcline family, who are magistrates in a direct-ruled area far from the capital."
It seemed like Noah could hear Liz's voice...
"Well, that direct-ruled area was taken, and now we're on the brink."
Noah laughed as if it were someone else's problem while looking at the lens.
"Excuse me."
Liz bowed her head inadvertently, and Noah waved his hand, saying, "It's fine."
"Our brink is because I was too lenient. Father has no interest in the title anyway."
Noah looked at the lens again and mentioned that his father, Count Arcline, also loved magic tools.
"I've also spent a lot of time in the town's workshops, haven't I, Ms. Emma?"
Noah turned around, and Emma nodded with a sigh, saying, "Yes."
"Childhood friends."
Emma looked at Randy and opened her mouth again.
"Count's young master and the workshop girl are childhood friends. After all, he doesn't seem like a nobleman's son."
Emma laughed self-deprecatingly, and as she said, Noah did not seem like a nobleman's son. But as Noah happily showed the lens, saying, "Ms. Emma, Ms. Emma, look," and Emma's eyes sparkled at it, they were undoubtedly childhood friends.
"Well, the nobleman's stuff, it's not a favor I can talk about."
Randy sighed almost at the same time as Noah, who seemed satisfied, slowly put the lens back.
"There are various things to consider, but first, may I see the actual performance of this prototype?"
"Yeah, it's fine. The mechanism itself is super simple."
Randy set a photo into the photo holder. It was a photo he secretly took of Liz and Ellie during Harrison and Rita's photo session last night.
"When did you take this?"
"You pervert!"
Randy calmed the flustered duo with a "Well, well," and placed a sheet of B5-sized paper into a larger holder to be copied. Of course, it wasn't just any paper, but photosensitive paper with Valion liquid on it.
"Set this here, then close the lid."
Randy gently closed the lid and pressed the button on the top lid.
A brief flash of light leaked from the gap in the lid, but nothing changed. However, when Randy removed the holder he had set...
"""Oh!"""
A cheer rose from the crowd. After all, photos themselves were still a luxury item. If such a photo was enlarged and produced like this, it was an amazing thing to them.
However, for Randy and the others, it was not quite satisfactory.
"It's still a bit overexposed. And the lens reflection... it feels worse than yesterday."
Randy compared the enlarged copy to the original photo and handed it to Liz and Ellie, saying, "Look." The strong light caused it to appear a bit too white compared to the original. Additionally, the outline of the light faintly reflected in the copy.
But if the light was reduced, the image wouldn't come out properly.
The two, handed their photo, showed a moment of exasperation, but quickly returned to their usual serious expressions.
"Overexposure? And if you look closely, the outlines are blurred in places."
"Hmm..."
Ellie, holding the photo, let her magical power flow faintly over the two photos.
"It seems that the unevenness of the photosensitive liquid has created subtle bumps. The unevenness of the original and the copy don't match, so tiny errors like this occur."
Randy muttered, "Uneven liquid..." as Ellie returned the photo to him. He had thought it was difficult to apply it evenly with the current method, but until now, it hadn't been a problem. It was strange that it became an issue like this.
"Well, I'll leave that problem to the boss..."
Randy rubbed his chin and handed the returned photo to Noah and Emma. Noah and Emma showed surprised faces to Randy after comparing the photo with the other students.
"Do you think it's too much?"
"Yeah..."
Randy nodded to the two and the other students, then shook his head.
"The final product needs a bit more refinement. I want it to be as beautiful as possible."
The goal is to convey the exact atmosphere of the clothes. Extra light, white blur, and bleeding could hinder that.
"Then there's the cost. If we need more prints, the number of large-format photo paper sheets increases..."
Randy does not plan to mass-produce, but he still needs to distribute a significant number. Therefore, the production cost cannot be too low.
"And, I have a proposal..."
Randy chuckled and took out the improved blueprint he had been looking at during lunch break, then handed it to Noah.
"This is..."
"What do you think? I thought it might give you some ideas about materials and such."
Noah also smiled at Randy's words.
"Mr. Randolph, this sounds interesting!"
Thus, the mad engineer Noah Arcline began his interaction with the mad musclehead Randy.
