Volume 7 Chapter 6-2 Friends Are Something You Realize You Become (Second Time)
The vice principal who called you didn't just say that, right?
With Julius's words, everyone's eyes turned to Randy. Under the scrutiny, Randy looked around at everyone, then shrugged awkwardly.
"...become the student council president"
His hesitant words and the shocking meaning took everyone a moment to understand.
After a brief silence, Luke muttered quietly.
"You're planning to turn the whole school into muscleheads?"
Everyone could easily imagine what Luke meant, even more clearly and quickly than when Randy whispered, "Become the president" just now.
"Hell no, I'm not going to turn into a musclehead!"
Randy grimaced, but since he just made and handed out something called the 'Victor Training Cloak', his words lacked credibility.
"I see. So if Randolph becomes the student council president, he could stop even creating that rule?"
Julius nodded, but Catherine looked suspicious.
"I get that, but wouldn't Julius or someone like him be better than a big guy?"
Wayne and Luke nodded at Catherine's grumbling, "Yeah, exactly." Basically, all they had to do was prevent Dario's group from putting someone in as president.
"That's the thing..."
Ellie frowned at Randy's hesitant tone, saying, "What's up? That's not like you."
"There are other things that seem off besides that rule,"
Randy, feeling embarrassed, spoke about the 'Dukedom's skilled students' clause, which had become just a formality of the study abroad rules. Originally, it was as intended, but over many years, the focus had shifted to simply accepting students.
Of course, this was partly because the kingdom believed in their own confidence. Even students who barely made the entrance score could be raised to excellent students by graduation.
There have actually been a few cases like that in the past, students who entered with barely passing scores but became excellent by graduation.
This was the result of Dukedom's students trying desperately to stay in the kingdom and improve themselves.
And about Randy... Randy was admitted at the very edge of the barrier, but he never showed any excellence and continues to fly low to this day.
"It seems the administrator pulled out this rule and asked, 'What about him?'"
"If you became student council president, you'd be seen as a leader."
Wayne, who agreed, is also barely scraping by like Randy. But since he's just a commoner and basically eager, the teachers like him.
"Surprisingly, though. I thought you'd be happy to leave a place like this."
Catherine shrugs, and Leon nods repeatedly, saying, "Yeah, I thought so too." The others also nod in agreement as they look at Randy.
"...Well, I mean. I don't care much for the school or any attachment..."
Embarrassed by his own words, Randy casually averts his gaze.
"It's just... you guys and, uh... well... I dunno... I guess, hanging around and bickering isn't so bad..."
Everyone's eyes widen in surprise at Randy's murmured words. Flustered, Randy raises his voice, saying, "Just a little, okay?" but it's already too late.
"Sir Randolph... you're actually soft!"
Leon mutters quietly, making everyone burst out laughing all at once.
"What's up, *Randy*! Do you wanna stick with us?"
Wayne, grinning, pats his shoulder, and Randy, frowning, says, "Just a little, I said!" but Julius even laughs, telling him, "No need to be shy."
"Damn. I shouldn't have said anything."
Liz smiles and speaks gently to Randy,
"Are we 'just a little' too?"
The mischievous smile makes it clear they're teasing Randy, and he's not about to back down now.
"No way... 'just a little'."
Smirking, Randy turns back to Liz and Ellie.
"You see... if I didn't come here, I wouldn't have met you two."
Looking up at the blue sky, Randy says, "So..." and then glances back at them again.
"My true wish is to graduate here, with the 3 of us together."
"Yes, that's right."
"Well, I guess I'll go along with it."
Randy smiles at the two of them, then adds, "And..."
"We promised to make lots of memories before graduation, remember?"
"And after graduation, too!"
"I'll go along with that, too."
Luke whistles, "Whoo!", as the 3 laugh together, while Catherine says, "Leon, give me your coffee," as she reaches for his cup, looking annoyed.
"It's black, you know? You can't drink black coffee, Saintly Lady!"
"It's okay. I think I can do it now."
Ignoring Catherine and Leon's bickering, Julius looks to Randy.
"Well, then, we have no choice, right?"
"Gotta steel myself..."
And so, Randolph Victor's challenge to become the student council president of Maximilian Academy, Alexandria Branch, began.
"SO BITTER!"
"That's what I said."
