By now, I'm probably gone from this world, but I want you to know──I've always wished for your health and happiness. Be kind to Alice, all right? And look after your brothers, your father, and Lady Lydia too. This [healing magic] skill──I'm sure it'll save your life one day. And when that happens, I hope you'll use it to save others too. I love you so much, Cain. Linore.'
Cain dropped to his knees right there, tears streaming down his face.
The grief was sharper still, weighed down by Michio's memories.
The agony of leaving 2 children behind, the aching regret, and above all, Linore's boundless love──love so deep it reached past death itself, trying to shelter her child.
The tears wouldn't stop.
"Thank you. I feel your love deeper than anything. I swear──I'll find happiness. I'll save as many people as I can. Please, watch over me. Thank you."
With tears still falling, Cain tilted his face to the sky and bowed low──so low his forehead nearly touched the ground.
He stayed like that for a while, until the sobs faded and he could finally lift his head.
"Starting today, I'm gonna practice [healing magic] every single day. I'll get stronger, fast. I'll heal the injured, cure the sick──everyone I can, no matter what."
It was the day Cain found his true purpose in this world──the day everything finally made sense.
