Volume 2 Chapter 17 Preparation for Tomorrow
After Cain and the others finished their bath, they went to the living room where Lydia and Alice were chatting over tea.
"Lydia, sorry to keep you waiting. I felt so good that I lost track of time. My bad."
"Don't worry about it, dear. I was talking with Alice. Let's have dinner now."
They all moved to the dining room. Once seated, they saw that the food was already prepared and waiting for them. Lately, not only dinner but even lunch included meat. Cain was grateful to his brothers for this.
"Ohh, is that guinea fowl tonight? It looks juicy and delicious."
Luke commented while eyeing the dish in front of him, his throat rumbling.
"Yes, the head chef tried his best to serve you the freshest meat, sir."
The head maid explained from the side.
"Let's eat before it gets cold. A toast to another day of safe provisions!" """Cheers!"""
Cain said a quiet "Itadakimasu" and started eating. Since dinner was later than usual, he was quite hungry. The salted skin was crispy and extremely delicious, and he was soon lost in the taste of the guinea fowl.
"Thank you, Father and Elder Brother Ben. It's very delicious."
"I'm glad to hear that, Cain. If it makes you happy, then it was worth the effort. What do you think, Benjamin?"
Luke glanced at Lydia before narrowing his eyes and speaking.
"Indeed, Father."
Benjamin seemed pleased as well.
After finishing a peaceful dinner, they relaxed in the living room, sipping on scented tea. Randolph placed desserts on the table and checked with Luke.
"Sir, is it really alright for us servants to use the 'bathhouse' as well?"
"Of course. Feel free to use it. This is also a test run before we expand the 'bathhouse' throughout the territory. Think of it as part of your job and don't hesitate to use it. And I'd like you to report any observations you might have."
While bathing, Cain suggested building "public baths" across the territory. He explained his goal was to improve public health and lower the mortality rate of infants and toddlers. He agreed to the proposal on the condition that the staff would use it and help identify any issues.
"Thank you. I'll gather everyone's feedback and report back. Sir Cain, it'll be tough, but please bear with us."
"Got it. If the water runs low or gets too cool, just let me know. And if it gets dirty, I'll change it."
By the time everyone finished, Cain had to add water 3 times. It was hard work, but seeing everyone's smiling faces made his fatigue vanish.
"Cain, what are you doing tomorrow? If you're free, want to train with Elder Brother Chris?"
But Alice have invited him to train the next day.
"I'm sorry, but I promised to make snacks with Elder Sister Alice. I'll be out in the town shopping before noon, so I can't join you. My apologies."
"──Huh, you're making them, Cain? When can we eat them?"
Unable to contain her excitement, she asked while bouncing up and down.
"I'll make 2 kinds. One for snack time, and the other for after dinner."
Cain thought for a moment, tilting his head side to side before answering.
"Why can't we eat them all at once!?"
"Because I need to test which ones are delicious. I can't compromise on that, good night."
He spoke firmly, leaving Alice pouting and returned to his room. From the living room, a voice shouted, "Boss Cain, you're so mean!"
