Volume 2 Chapter 25 Second New Year's in Another World V
The New Year's Eve dinner was really lively. Not long ago, Luke raised his wine glass and said, "Tonight is no rules, let's enjoy to the max!" Now, things got pretty crazy. Luke, Randolph, and Lloyd──the chef──were laughing loudly, drinking and joking by the wall.
Cain was munching on his second guinea fowl thigh for the day.
"Cain, are you eating a lot?"
Lydia brought a plate piled high with "Daigaku Imo" (sweet potatoes) and sat down next to Cain.
"Yes. Father and Elder Brother Ben caught a lot of guinea fowl for us. We are receiving them."
He showed off his half-eaten thigh proudly.
"That's good. Since Cain worked hard, it's okay to eat a lot. But really, don't push yourself too hard. Since the baptism ceremony, Cain has grown up a lot... It's a little lonely."
"Is that so? Maybe because I can use [magic] now, I have more time to think?"
"Well, because of that, we've been able to eat lots of delicious food and we even got that nice 'bathhouse'──it feels good. But you don't have to grow up so fast. I love cute Cain just the way he is."
Lydia gently hugged Cain.
"Come on, let's enjoy the 'Daigaku Imo'♪"
After hugging Cain happily for a while, she began eating the 'Daigaku Imo' she brought, looking really pleased.
"Cain, I found you! This hamburger is really tasty."
Chris brought 3 big hamburgers on a plate and sat down at Cain's table.
"Glad you like it. The recipe is from the 'Book of the Hero.'"
"I like how the meat juice oozes out when you bite. I could eat these forever."
Chris took a large piece of the hamburger and ate it in one bite.
"Elder Brother Arthur, over here!"
Chris called out to Arthur, who was looking for a seat with fried chicken and ale in hand.
"Mother, the amount of work is ridiculous! Why don't we get more clerks?"
Arthur, a little tipsy, grumbled to Lydia about the work he had done over the past few days.
"What are you saying? That's nothing. Normally, it's about one and a half times that much. And thanks to Cain, it's gotten a little better, but we just can't afford to hire more clerks."
While spearing a "Daigaku Imo" with his fork, she hinted with a sharp look, as if saying, *You're being too soft.*
"So, when you get back, you better bring 2 or 3 talented people with you, or you're going to collapse."
Her words hit hard, reminding him of the harsh reality.
""Elder Brother Arthur, good luck!""
Chris and Cain's voices overlapped. Not wanting to get caught up in it any longer, they quickly moved away from the table.
They headed over to Benjamin, who was serving by the ale barrels.
"Elder Brother Ben, what are you doing?"
"Ah, Cain! The ale was way too warm, so I'm cooling it down. It's been a big hit, so I've kept at it. Plus, I can drink a lot here, so it's not bad."
Benjamin, likely a little drunk, was speaking more casually than usual.
"Want me to bring you some snacks?"
"Sure, I think I'd like some *kakuni*."
""Got it, I'll bring it right away.""
"Here you go, *kakuni*. I also brought some fried chicken. Today's chicken is guinea fowl, so it tastes even better. Thank you."
"Thanks. Glad the guinea fowl's a hit."
Benjamin seemed to be in a better mood than usual.
Cain, watching the family and servants enjoying the New Year's feast, hoped next year would be even better. Personally, he decided his goal would be to find and eat some *rice*.
'Please, no bad luck...'
