Volume 2 Chapter 44 Family Name Decision
As the setting sun began to stain the capital red, the entire process of paving the "stone road" in Margrave Shield territory was nearing completion. Turning around, he saw the roads that had been paved with stones now connected, reflecting the red hue of the sunset, and a sense of accomplishment filled him as he gazed at the stone-paved road. Turning back to face forward, a large crowd of villagers watched Cain with eager eyes. He nodded at the Maintenance Bureau staff and declared loudly.
"Alright, this is the last one, everyone, let's go!"
""Ooooh!!!""
The children and adults around, watching the work, answered Cain's call.
"One, two! [Stone]"
""Stone""
It was hard to tell how many times it had happened today, but Cain shouted the [magic] name in sync with the others. The dirt road faintly glowed, and from the spot where Cain placed his hand and the places where the children also touched, the dirt road started transforming into "stone pavement."
"""Waaa!"""
The children's cheers rose as they shouted the [magic] name along with Cain. Normally, the "stone road" would only form from the spot where Cain placed his hand, but since Cain thought it would be more fun this way, he used his imagination and expanded the starting points for the transformation within view, using [magic]. This was a huge success, and the children were overjoyed. Just to avoid any misunderstandings, Cain made sure to explain, "This is only when you're doing it with me."
"It's done! Thank you, everyone!"
Cain, facing the Maintenance Bureau staff, the guards, and the townspeople who had volunteered to help organize the onlookers, loudly declared the work complete. Sparse applause began with "clap clap clap," which soon turned into thunderous applause. The staff, guards, and volunteers all clapped happily, waving their hands or raising them in response.

As night fell, the lights of the [light] magic tools along the street began to glow. The bustling noise from earlier faded as Cain gazed at the now quiet street. With the traffic regulations lifted, carriages began to roll down the "stone-paved" road.
"Sir Cain, the carriage has arrived over there. We're heading back to Margrave Shield's estate."
Barvish calls out to Cain, who is looking at the cobblestone road, and stands just behind him.
"But Sir Cain, you're amazing. You turned this road into cobblestones in just one day. Even I, who can't use magic, feel awe just imagining your Mana amount."
"Really? Did I look cool? But don't worry, since it's [Earth magic], it won't become something like you imagine, Barvish. Just make sure to guard me properly. Thinking like you do, someone scared might try to kidnap me."
Cain looks vaguely at a deep gaze directed toward the alley on his right, not understanding anything.
"It's fine. That person's just a somewhat muscular human who wants to shake Cain's hand but can't come out, giving a hot stare from the alley."
(Huh? Isn't that dangerous? When I think about it, I feel a little shivery. Let's go back quickly! But Barvish's [Presence Detection] [skill] is amazing.)
Cain quickly gets into the carriage, telling the driver "Let's go quickly," and shrinks inside.
The carriage arrives at Margrave Shield's estate. Lydia, Alice, and Aisha are there to welcome them.
"Frontier Count Shieldess, Viscountess Sanroze, Lady Alice. Thank you for welcoming us. We've just finished all our tasks and returned."
Cain respectfully bows his head to the servants and expresses his gratitude.
"Lord Cain, thank you for your work today. Margrave is waiting in his study."
Aisha responds kindly.
"Hehe, Cain, welcome back. You greeted everyone properly. Lydia, you're doing well."
Aisha's expression becomes like that of an old grandmother, welcoming them as family.
"Great-grandmother, Mother Lydia, Elder Sister Alice. I'm back now. The work is safely done."
Cain's face softens, and he says "I'm home" to everyone.
After Aisha and the other 2 had their fill of hugging and patting Cain, they let him go, saying, "Grandfather's waiting." He wondered if Lydia's affection was genetic as he knocked on Margrave Shield's office door.
"Excuse me, Cain Sanroze, I have returned."
He bowed before entering, then bowed again to Margrave Shield in front of the desk.
"I'm here to report on today's work and the completion of all tasks. May I have your time?" "Yes," came the reply, so Cain reported on the day's work and the completion of all tasks.
"I'll check the detailed report tomorrow, but were there any problems? Anything you noticed, I'd like to know."
Still in work mode, Cain decided to propose the ideas he'd been considering for the past few days to the Margrave.
"Well then, one thing..."
Considering time and cost, Cain had used [Earth magic] to "pave" the area. Normally, craftsmen would do the work, creating jobs and stimulating the economy with their wages, which he might have hindered.
"Don't worry, Cain. As you thought, I asked you to do it this time because of the time and cost. We used the extra funds for other improvements, so overall, there's no problem. Besides, maintenance will be needed regularly, so we'll use craftsmen as usual. But, more importantly, I've thought about your family name. Cain Sanroze Shamrock. You shall be Sir Shamrock."
"Thank you very much!"
