Volume 2 Chapter 53 Gift of a Magic Tool
Cain headed to the kitchen where Chef Lloyd was, carrying a bottle of Cowcowbull milk. The cooks were busy preparing lunch. Cain looked around for Chef Lloyd and was called from behind.
"Young Master Cain, what brings you here today?"
"Chef Lloyd, I brought Cowcowbull milk, so I thought you could make a dish with it."
Cain showed the bottle of milk to Chef Lloyd.
"This is the Cowcowbull milk that Lady and Young Master Cain brought, right? May I taste it right away?"
"Huh? Have you ever drunk Cowcowbull milk, Chef Lloyd?"
"No, I've had goat milk before, but this is my first time with Cowcowbull milk."
Chef Lloyd took the bottle of milk from Cain, placed it on the counter, and poured some into a small dish to taste it.
"Ah, wait. Please use [Purification] [Daily Magic] before drinking it. Some people might get diarrhea. You can also boil it, but since you can use [Purification], it's more convenient, right?"
"That's right. [Purification] is easier for this amount. What should I make? I heard the Lady enjoyed butter, so should I make butter?"
Chef Lloyd used [Purification] [Daily Magic] and asked while tasting it.
"Making butter takes a little time... How about 'White Stew' for dinner?"
"'White Stew'? Since it's white, you'll make stew with this milk, right? Do you have a recipe?"
"I do! I wrote the details on this wooden board. Actually, butter would make it richer, but since this is a trial, I made the recipe without butter."
Chef Lloyd started making the white stew while referring to Cain's written recipe. The ingredients were the same as a normal stew, so he used materials from the kitchen. Soon, the smell of milk began to waft from the pot, stimulating appetite. But, perhaps because there was no butter, the aroma seemed a bit weak. He thought it would be better to simmer the stew a little longer. So, he decided to eat lunch first at the kitchen table. Today's lunch was a bacon sandwich.
"Young Master Cain, it's ready. Shall I have you try it?"
Chef Lloyd ladled the finished white stew into a small wooden bowl. He shared some with the other cooks in the kitchen to taste.
"Oh, this is delicious. Maybe a little more salt? And, as Young Master Cain said, adding butter might make it richer."
Chef Lloyd tasted each spoonful, checking the flavor. The other cooks exclaimed, "Wow" or "Tasty" one after another.
"Young Master Cain, this milk is good. But if serving this white stew, I'd like to add butter. Let's make the butter first for you to enjoy. And the crepes? Please give me that recipe too."
Cain then explained how to make butter and crepes to Chef Lloyd. Immediately, Chef Lloyd ordered one of the cooks to fetch more milk. Chef Lloyd would make many delicious dishes. Cain looked forward to it.

"Elder Sister Alice, may I come in?"
Cain knocked on Alice's room door.
"Come in," he heard Alice permit entry from inside. He opened the door and stepped in. Alice's room was cluttered, with several open wooden boxes, as she had not yet finished packing for the capital. Clothes and small items were scattered around.
"I packed everything once, but Mother Lydia said to reduce the luggage because it was too much. Don't touch anything, okay? What's up?"
It seemed he had arrived during her busiest packing time. It had been a while since he saw Alice looking a bit irritated.
"Sorry to disturb you. I brought these magic tools for you, Elder Sister Alice."
Cain took out the three [Daily Magic] tools he had created and handed them to Alice.
"They're [Light], [Ignition], and [Hot Water] magic tools. I tweaked [Hot Water] a bit—it can also produce cold water. Just say [Hot Water] for hot water and [Cold Water] for cold water. I thought they'd be useful until you go to the capital and while you're at Knight Academy."
Alice alternated between looking at the three magic tools and Cain's face, her expression changing rapidly. She went from surprise to joy and finally started crying.
"Cain, thank you. It must have been hard for you. I'm sorry I snapped at you."
"Don't worry, Elder Sister Alice. It's my fault for coming at a busy time. Please don't mind it."
Cain patted Alice's back as she cried, waiting for her to calm down.
"Thank you. Cain can even make magic tools now. I feel like you're doing things I don't know about anymore. What if you become even more unfamiliar while I'm in the capital?"
She teared up again.
"I'll write letters. So please don't worry. And you'll be back for New Year's, right? I'll look forward to it."
Hearing this, Alice seemed reassured and smiled, saying, "Definitely send me letters, okay?"
