Volume 2 Chapter 54 Enjoyable Dinner
The next day before noon, Chef Lloyd asked them to come to the kitchen. They headed there after their usual training. The kitchen was filled with the rich aroma of butter and milk. Just smelling it made their stomachs rumble.
"Chef Lloyd, the butter is ready."
"Young Master Cain, thank you. I made butter from the milk and prepared a white stew. It's richer and tastes much better than yesterday's."
"As expected of Chef Lloyd. Tonight, it's white stew. It's cold, so it's perfect for warming up."
"Since Young Master Cain passed the test, tonight's soup is the white stew. Do we have any milk-based desserts?"
"Hmm, we gave crepes to Mother Lydia and Elder Sister Alice last time. Maybe I should try making that? Is there still milk? And eggs?"
"Yes, both are still available. Hey, bring the milk and eggs. Now, tell me how to make it."

That evening, Luke and the Sanroze family members gathered in the dining hall. When everyone sat down, warm vegetable salad and bread were served. Usually, soup comes with the salad, so Cain's face showed surprise—everyone else looked confused.
"Randolph, isn't there any soup tonight?"
"No, tonight we prepared a milk-based soup. It will be served after the salad."
"I see, at last, I get to eat a dish with milk. Let's enjoy it after the main course."
Luke started eating the salad and noticed something beside the bread.
"Randolph, what is this?"
"Yes, that is butter made from milk. Please spread it on the bread and enjoy. It's very tasty."
"What, you ate it before the master?"
"Of course, I couldn't serve the master something bad. I checked it first."
Randolph replied with a smile. Luke also smiled slightly while spreading butter on the bread and eating it.
"Delicious! Just this butter makes me want to eat several pieces of bread."
Luke started eating, engrossed in spreading butter on the bread.
"Father, it's better to save some bread for the soup coming up."
Cain's advice came too late; Luke had already finished all the bread.
"What, I can just get more bread. I did a lot of work today, so I can eat more than usual."
Lydia and Alice finished eating the warm vegetables while the maids served the soup. Then, Chef Lloyd, who had come to the dining hall, explained the dish.
"Today's soup is a white stew. We used the milk from Cowcowbull that the mistress brought the other day. The ingredients are guinea fowl, carrots, and potatoes. It's hot, so please be careful when eating."
The served white stew smelled very good, with a rich aroma of milk and butter. Lydia and Alice were captivated. Luke started eating with a spoon as soon as the explanation ended.
"Oh, this is delicious. Such a rich soup. The butter earlier adds to the rich taste."
Nodding in agreement, Luke kept spooning the white stew into his mouth, one spoonful at a time.
"Oh my, it's truly delicious~desuwa. The carrots and potatoes seem much sweeter than usual."
"Indeed, Lady Lydia. The guinea fowl meat is tender and very delicious."
It seemed that Lydia and Alice were also pleased.
"Father, try dipping bread in the soup and eating it. It's a different kind of deliciousness."
Cain tore the bread into bite-sized pieces and dipped it in the soup.
"What, Randolph. As expected, how impressive."
Before Luke could ask Randolph for more bread, more bread was already prepared in front of him. He tore it and dipped it in the soup like Cain.
"Oh, this is delicious too. The rich soup and bread go well together. I might eat too much of this."
Alice started eating bread like Luke after seeing him dip it into the soup.
"Oh, Elder Sister Alice. There will be dessert today, so you should not eat too much."
Cain warned Alice after seeing her replace the bread like Luke.
"It's okay, I can eat a lot even if my stomach is full, especially for sweet dessert!"
Alice was surprised that there was a concept of "dessert stomach" in this world too.
After dinner, the maids started serving after-dinner tea. Lydia, like Alice, was waiting for dessert with a smiling face.
(Mother Lydia likes sweet things too, huh.)
Cain watched the mother and daughter acting similarly. The door opened, and today's dessert was brought in with a sweet aroma.
"Everyone, thank you for waiting. Today's dessert is pancakes. They're thin, bread-like, topped with whipped cream and dried grapes. Please add butter and honey as you like."
The served plate had 2 slightly small pancakes, a generous amount of whipped cream, and dried raisins. During the trial, they had not made whipped cream, but after the taste test, Chef Lloyd requested a more luxurious appearance, so they tried making whipped cream with the leftover cream that was not turned into butter.
The whipped cream, made with considerable effort by the chef, was liked by the maids and Randolph. Therefore, the chef's arms were tired after making whipped cream again for dinner. Cain thought that if they didn't make that "shaka-shaka" (he forgot the name) earlier, the chef might quit.
"Mother Lydia, this is so sweet and delicious. I just want to eat a lot of this whipped cream!"
"Really. But eating pancakes, whipped cream, and honey all at once is even more delicious, Alice."
Lydia and Alice were so delighted that they finished their desserts quickly. Luke also seemed to enjoy it very much. Cain hoped that this would lead to milk production in the Sanroze territory. Seeing Lydia and Alice's eager eyes, Luke gave half of his pancake to Lydia, and Cain gave half of his to Alice. Chef Lloyd, please make extra next time!
