Volume 1 Chapter 18 Genderbend Female Knight, Hearing The Second Twist Of The Gender Conflict
"My fiancé is someone called Theodore Di Cullu, the Viscount's heir. His family has a bit of a grudge against my Baron Vidilva family."
"A grudge?"
In response to Eleonora's question, Italy answered while looking down.
"The Baron Vidilva family has served as knights for generations under the royal family, while the Cullu Viscount family serves as court sorcerers and advisors to the king."
"Ah, I can see how tension would inevitably arise."
As she tossed a few small twigs into the fire to keep it from weakening, she lowered her eyes. It's essentially a rivalry between sports-oriented and science-oriented types.
The Vidilva family puts their bodies on the line in service but resents those who whisper in the background and are held in high regard. Meanwhile, the Cullu family, loud and only capable of combat, looks down on them as monkeys... That's probably it.
"So, how do you not get along with that Theodore guy?"
"He's the second son, and since I'm the only child of the Vidilva family, it was decided that he would become a son-in-law... Perhaps he doesn't like that, as he often speaks abusively to me."
"Abusive words, for example?"
"'Don't you even know such simple things?' or 'You're tall and arrogant even though you're a girl! Do you even have a dress that fits?'..."
"Let me ask, is your fiancé short?"
"He's shorter than me."
The girl Eleonora saw during the daytime march was about a head shorter than her, so her height must be around 175 cm? Certainly tall for a woman.
People's true feelings come out in their insults, so Eleonora thought his true feelings—or more precisely, the words revealing his inferiority complex—were likely the latter: ['tall for a girl'].
"I see, so your fiancé probably hates how short he is. That's why he's taking it out on you... That's probably it."
"No, surely not such a thing."
"Humans under 170 cm have no rights, anyway."
"Um, Lady Kamitafira? What exactly is 'Jin-ken'...?"
Now, Eleonora was at a loss for how to explain, as these concepts originated roughly 400–500 years ahead in the Earth world.
In this era, it's no exaggeration to say only noblemen are treated as human.
Even if she's a princess, she's ultimately treated no differently because she's only recognized as a political tool.
It took another 200 years after the bourgeois revolution, the enfranchisement of common men, and the feminist movement for women to gain suffrage—for the idea of complete gender equality and not creating hierarchies among people to spread widely among the populace.
Whether Italy could understand or not, Eleonora wanted to respond to her desire to know.
"Written as 'human rights,' every person has the right to live as a human from the moment they are born. And the state must recognize and protect this right."
"What does it mean to live as a human?"
"Only humans speak words and communicate meanings. Therefore, we must get to know and respect each other through words. Accepting each other's skin color, eye color, language spoken, country of birth, whether male or female, and embracing each other as siblings. That is what it means to live 'like a human.'"
Well, no one has been able to do such a thing for the past 1,000 years.
Eleonora swallowed those words, feeling guilty for teaching this innocent girl the harsh reality.
"Lady Kamitafira────"
A tear trickled down from her moistened eyes, and Italy covered her face with her hands.
The sound of her sobbing echoed loudly in the dark night.
"I didn't mean to tell a story that would make you cry..."
"No, no. I was enlightened by hearing such thoughts for the first time. For humans to live like humans. It's only natural, isn't it?"
"Well, that's right, but..."
That's something humanity cannot achieve; this sin reappears in every era in the form of discrimination.
"So, it's disgraceful to say this, but..."
Italy looked down slightly, then, with determination, she met Eleonora's eyes and spoke.
"Could you teach me how to study?"
