Volume 7 Chapter 26-2 Taboo? It's Just That The Story Is Getting Bigger
Noah looked confused, and Liz seemed frustrated. Ellie, also looking exasperated, said, "It's about Randy," implying that even in ancient times when elementals were understood, there had never been anyone as foolish as Randy.
"Anything works. For now, we just need to catch them."
Randy, smiling, started planning the schedule to capture the elemental with Noah. "Then, let's get started on the schedule without delay..."
"Sunday's out because there's a photo shoot..."
"Photo shoot?"
"Oh, is Noah coming too?"
Noah suggested inviting Emma to the photo shoot and agreed with Randy, who was inviting him to join.
"So, tomorrow afternoon──"
"Or maybe Saturday afternoon."
As Noah mentioned, there was a morning school schedule on Saturday, so they planned to use the afternoon to catch the elemental.
"Honestly, I'm not sure if we'll find them, but I want to keep both days open..."
Randy crossed his arms, and Liz, looking apologetic, started to speak, "Um..."
"Elementals are one thing, but you also need to do election campaigning, right?"
"Election campaigning?"
Liz explained the rules she learned from her school days during election periods. Basically, candidates must make their presence known to students at least once.
"Since you haven't done anything like that yet, you need to do it tomorrow or the day after. Otherwise, they'll think you're not motivated and withdraw your candidacy."
"Seriously...?"
"Yes, really."
Randy gave a small laugh and asked Liz, "What kind of activities?" Liz also laughed lightly.
"Hosting a party and interacting with students is the usual approach."
"A party?"
Randy made a strange, awkward sound, and Ellie and Liz looked at each other, then burst out laughing.
"Why are you laughing?"
"No...,"
"It's just... I don't think it suits you."
Randy, trying to suppress his frustration, furrowed his brow and said, "Shut up," then crossed his arms again.
"Party..."
Randy muttered, clearly wanting to avoid the party. However, there was a risk of expulsion, and more importantly, an instructor had recommended him. He couldn't afford to be humiliated by losing without even trying.
(What should I do? Well, it's fine if the elemental shows up next week at worst...)
Randy groaned, "Hmm," and looked up at the ceiling with his arms crossed.
"I have a suggestion."
Everyone's eyes turned to Liz, who raised her hand slightly.
"How about turning the elemental capture into a gathering?"
At that moment, the girl who had been talking about the elemental dropped a surprising idea.
* * *
While Liz had just suggested the crazy idea of an 'Elemental Capture Gathering,' in the Alexandria Autonomous District Government—the former royal castle—Governor Gustav Rothheim was meeting with a boy alone in his office.
"You're saying things look bad?"
"I'm truly sorry."
The one bowing his head was Dario Row, the Prime Minister's son.
"I can't believe someone like you is struggling."
Governor Gustav, shifting his legs, folded his fingers and said, "The opponent is a noble from the countryside and a fallen former prince."
"Your Highness... no, with Edgar splitting the votes, a small shift is forming toward a third candidate."
Dario, looking down, couldn't understand why the support was shifting toward Randy. However, he had mobilized officials to investigate the subtle change he'd sensed since morning and got a vague answer: neither Edgar nor Dario was fully trusted.
"It's my lack of leadership... but there's also the obligation to Edgar and lingering distrust of the Empire, which isn't insignificant."
Dario was right, but the biggest factor was indeed his lack of leadership. The futures of Dario and Edgar were unclear, and their composure made it hard to see why support was shifting to Randy.
"I see. So even as a royal, he's still royal."
"...Yes."
Governor Gustav checked reports from the academy, but no student would openly discuss the core aspects of the student council election. Revealing such details could lead to unnecessary conflicts.
Following Randy seemed to offer a clearer future than following Dario or Edgar. More than anything, he seemed enjoyable.
No student could openly say that the shift was small and gentle.
"As expected, Edgar's appearance turned a big hole into an evacuation site, huh?"
Sighing, Governor Gustav nodded deeply. "Understood."
"The ones who recommended Victor were Instructors Gardo and Burk."
Dario nodded silently, and Gustav sighed again. "I've also heard about yesterday."
"Was the recommendation appropriate? I'll confirm directly tomorrow. If it isn't..."
Seeing Gustav smirk slightly, Dario looked worried. Knowing the combat instructor's recommendation and Randy's abilities, there was no issue with the recommendation.
Noticing Dario's expression, Gustav smiled again. "No problem."
"He seems to handle S-rank easily, but he's probably just at the current S-rank level."
Gustav chuckled mockingly. "And he's from a Dukedom."
"Even with his strength, it's not just Victor—there are others who aren't well-known."
Confidently, Gustav laughed low, and Dario bowed his head. "Leave it to me."
Elementals with attribute magic will retaliate if provoked. And on the other side, if provoked, Randy—no, Victor—will retaliate with his fists.
Coincidentally, both had decided around the same time to involve themselves with something considered 'taboo' by some.
And what will happen as a result... Only the goddess knows, probably.
