Volume 3 Chapter 46 Arrival At Margrave Shield Territory
Cain and his group left the campsite and traveled along the cobblestone street without any trouble. They soon arrived at the capital of Margrave Shield Territory. It had rained both nights, but the cobblestones kept the road clear, so their carriage moved smoothly without getting stuck in mud.
"Sir Cain, the capital of Margrave Shield Territory is in sight."
Barvish, sitting in the driver's seat, called out to Cain, who was in the cargo area.
"Ah, really. Looking at it this way, even the town walls of Sanroze Territory don't lose out."
This time, they could see the impressive town walls of Margrave Shield Territory more easily than before.
The other three praised Cain's achievements, saying things like, "It's all thanks to Sir Cain" or "You worked hard." Cain, genuinely happy, corrected them: "It's not just me; we all built it together," stressing that it was a group effort.
As usual, many travelers and merchants waited outside the capital, but Cain's carriage headed to the gate reserved for nobles. They showed their noble emblem at the entrance, where a guard greeted them: "Sir Cain, welcome back."
They could have gone straight to the Margrave Shield mansion, but the guard said they would send word ahead. So, they waited in the square after entering the gate until their welcome party arrived. The cobblestone road Cain had paved stretched out from the gate. Since it was only a few months old, no stones had come loose or shifted.
After about 20 minutes, two soldiers ran up to them. They stopped in front of Cain's carriage, spotted him, and saluted.
"Sir Cain, we've come to pick you up. We are the 3rd Division of the Margrave Shield Knight Shield Knights, Leben and Stan."
"Thank you for greeting us. It is I, along with two retainers and four maids. Please treat us well."
Cain responded to the soldiers.
Leben and Stan checked the horses and carriage with practiced ease. Leben sat on the groom's seat, while Stan ensured the departure was safe. As Cain and his group boarded, Stan called out that it was okay to leave. The carriage continued along the cobblestone road, and before increasing speed, a groom leapt onto the driver's seat.
The Margrave Shield estate was as busy as ever. Many people walked along the roads, and merchants set up stalls, negotiating prices with passersby. After a while, the carriage reached the Margrave Shield residence.
The carriage stopped at the estate's gate, and Cain and his group got out. In front of the estate, the steward and maids of the Margrave Shield family greeted them.
"Thank you for your hard work in greeting us, Cain Sanroze Shamrock. You have returned. Please present yourselves to the master."
The steward replied, "Yes," bowed, and returned to the estate. The maids welcomed them with, "Sir Cain, welcome back."
Cain, Barvish, and Gardy were guided into the Margrave Shield's study. The steward led the way, knocked on the door, and waited for a response before opening it.
"Margrave Shield, I have just returned. I apologize for the delay."
Cain entered the room and greeted Margrave Shield.
"Lord Shamrock, good work. Was there any problem during the journey?"
Margrave Shield responded with a smile.
"Cain, that formal greeting is enough. Well done on coming back. Were you well during your absence?"
"Yes, grandfather, I apologize for taking so long to return. Grandfather is also in good health."
Margrave Shield welcomed Cain home with a very kind smile.
