Volume 7 Chapter 32 Bonus

"Still... the Elementals. What a memory."

Randy smiled and looked up at the sky. Luke frowned and said, "Most of those memories suck, though."

 "Why?"

"Why? Come on, it was mostly your fault."

Luke frowned harder and started telling the story of their first fight with the Elementals.

Back when they were young and called themselves an exploration team, they went into the Beast Forest and ran into a Wind Elemental. Harrison, Abel, and Galhart all said, "Let's run." But Randy charged forward shouting, "Alright, this one's next!"

"That was the worst day ever."

Luke let out a sigh as he remembered. Randy laughed and said, "Yeah, that did happen."

"It's not funny. Wind blades, wind bullets—they came at us non-stop. We ran like crazy, but they just kept coming."

Luke looked tired just thinking about it. He sighed again, deep this time.

 "Oh... I just remembered."

 "You remembered, huh? Idiot."

Randy leaned in close, staring at him like he couldn't believe it.

"Back then, you were yelling stuff like, 'You moron!' and 'Let's offer him as bait!' Just random garbage."

Randy glared at him. Luke raised his voice and said, "Now you bring that up?" His shout echoed down the street. People turned to look. Luke cleared his throat, a little embarrassed.

"Of course I said that. You charged in when I kept yelling, 'Don't do it!'"

Luke leaned back and stared up at the sky. He sighed. "And that wasn't even the only time..."

"But we got stronger because of it, didn't we?"

Randy leaned back too and started talking. "Yeah, because of that, we—"

He began telling the story about the Harvest Festival, a few years later.

Everyone had gathered around a big bonfire. Out of nowhere, a Fire Elemental showed up.

People panicked and started heading home, but Randy's team took it down.

"We were heroes that day, right?"

"Until Gal's old man knocked us all flat for being reckless."

Luke sighed. In his mind, he saw the tall pillar of fire in the town square—and standing there, a man with a scary face. A huge, muscle-packed man, Galhart. Back then, he was the Deputy of the Knight Brigade.

"That guy... I heard he took down the Four Saints or something like that in Braubelg. With one hit."

"No way. Poor guy on the other end of that punch."

Luke gave a small, tired smile. Randy laughed too. "One scary man."

"I bet our dads hunted Elementals too."

"Of course they did. They always said, 'You're too young for that.'"

"Now it's part of rookie training."

 "All because of some idiot."

Luke laughed. Randy laughed too and looked up. "You should say thank you."

Randy stared at the darkening sky, then let out a quiet laugh.

"Can't believe we ended up catching one..."

He squinted as he looked up and smiled. "Back then, I don't think we could've imagined it."

 "No, I think we could've."

Luke frowned, watching Randy. "...What's wrong?"

"I mean, you kid who always jumped in without thinking? You grew up. If someone had said, 'Let's catch one next,' no one would've been shocked. They'd believe it."

Randy frowned back, unsure. "I don't think so."

But Luke shook his head and said seriously, "No, they'd believe it."

 "Everyone in Victor would."

Luke laughed. But Randy smiled anyway, with "What rude people."

The chat between the two old friends drifted off, and soon they were talking about Luke and Cecilia. But that's another story.
