Volume 4 Chapter 6 World Tree

Zain was going to guide him through the forest town around the World Tree. Zain said this town was home to fairies like high elves, elves, pixies, dryads, and others.

The town was full of magic tools. There were magic lights, magic water systems, and even magic transport. The carriage they rode in? It floated without wheels, and the horse pulling it was a golem. Everything was new, and he couldn't stop looking around with wide eyes.

The roads in the area Zain called Cain's special place were made of small white stones that looked like asphalt. But most of the homes were built in trees, so the areas outside the white roads had clean, soft grass. The white roads and green grass looked very pretty together.

"Hey, Mr. Zain, what kind of magic tool are those people using?"

Cain asked. He was watching some people move to the higher floors of the treehouses.

They were using magic tools that looked like hook guns. They helped people go up straight to the upper floors.

The way to use it was simple. You shoot a glowing rope above the treehouse balcony you want to reach. Then, the rope pulls you up with magic power.

"Oh, that? I think it's a tool made about a hundred years ago. It's called 'Hang Move,' I think. It uses gravity magic, and it's very easy to use."

"If a thief had that tool, that would be a big problem, right? They could climb over castle walls and stuff."

"Hehehe. Don't worry, Sir Cain. Using that tool takes 500 magic points each time, so most human thieves can't use it too often."

Barvish and Lala quietly agreed. "That makes sense."

"By the way, where are we going now?"

"First, I thought we would visit the World Tree, so we're going to the shrine."

"Huh? Where's the World Tree? Is it far?"

Cain looked out the carriage window. He didn't see any huge tree that could be the World Tree.

"You can already see it. That wall in front of us is part of the World Tree."

"What? That huge wall? No way—is that really the tree!?"

From the carriage, the thing that looked like a castle wall was actually the tree's trunk.

Soon, they reached the shrine at the bottom of the World Tree. The shrine looked like a big stone temple. It stood out in a town where most buildings were treehouses.

They stopped in front of the shrine and looked up at the tree again. Its top was covered by clouds. Cain thought the first branch must be over 300 meters high. He kept staring up for a while.

"Sir Cain, if you keep looking like that, your neck will hurt. Please, this way."

Zain led them into the shrine. Inside, there were many thick white pillars going up to the tall ceiling.

There were other visitors too, and some people were wearing tall pointed hats with no brims.

"Sir Zain, it's been a while. How are you?"

A high elf man walked over. He also wore a brimless pointed hat, but his had three gold stripes. His robe was bright blue and very different from the others.

"It has been a long time, Third High Jurist Gagana. I came here to pray and give an offering."

"Oh, thank you. Are these guests from outside the town?"

The man, Third High Jurist Gagana, looked at Cain and the others.

"Yes, they're my friends. It's their first visit, so I'm showing them around."

Zain introduced Cain and the rest. Then Gagana gave his own name and title. After that, the greetings were done.

Gagana led them to a room in the back of the shrine. The room was big enough for about fifty people. The back wall was made to look like the bark of the World Tree.
