Volume 7 Chapter 37 It's A Mysterious Creature, So Of Course I Would Do That Much
In the afternoon, the event organized by Randy was taking place... In front of the old school building, a surprising number of students had gathered. The crowd was so large that Wayne, who had said he would help with the event, raised his eyebrows and asked, "Are people really this bored?"
Despite the crowd, things were calm. This was thanks to Randy and his team's good planning... and Leia, the magic instructor sent by the principal of the Lucius branch.
Leia was an elf, skilled in magic, and one of the strongest at the academy—second only to Lucius. With her strict attitude and strong abilities, no one dared to misbehave.
"Well then, it's time," Randy said, standing at the podium that Liz had set up. "I, Randolph Victor, will begin the 'Element Capture Research Meeting.'"
The students, all eyes on him, were waiting.
"As you know, dark Elements appear in the basement of this school," Randy explained. These dark Elements are usually driven away by instructors like Lucius, who use Holy Magic. But, no matter how many times they do, the Elements keep coming back. They are troublesome, to say the least.
"This time, we aim to capture one of these Elements and study what they really are."
The crowd gasped in excitement. If the experiment succeeded, everyone would be recognized for their role. Their names would be in the research report, making them part of a big discovery.
But, some students were just there out of curiosity. They didn't know how the Elements would be captured or what the plan was.
Then, a question came from the back. It might have been one of Dario's or Edgar's spies, but Randy answered with a smile. "Good question."
"The tool we're using was created by the president of the Magic Tool Research Club," Randy said, pointing to Noah Arcline, who was waving from the stage.
Noah was holding what looked like an insect-catching net. The sight of it made everyone pause in confusion.
"What is that? Can we really catch the Element with that?" someone asked.
Noah, eager to explain, started, "This tool is designed to capture dark Elements. Unlike ghosts, Elements are physical. They can be made of water, earth, and other materials. This net can trap them."
While no one understood the complicated magic or materials involved, Noah's confidence made the students believe it could work.
"Alright, now that you understand the tool, let's try capturing one."
Randy looked at the students. Naturally, not everyone could go down to the basement.
"Who wants to join?" he asked.
Most hesitated. The Element capture seemed dangerous, and the tool didn't look like it could do much.
"Well, I can catch it, and you can help investigate..." Randy added with a shrug.
Almost at once, two hands went up. Randy grinned, "Oh!"
"Two brave volunteers," Randy said, while Luke groaned, "Don't call them 'challengers.'"
"Come on up," Randy invited.
Gael and Elesia stepped forward, both surprised to see each other. They both muttered, "Ah."
"Do you two know each other?" Randy asked.
The two looked at each other and replied vaguely, "Well..." They couldn't admit they were spies.
Seeing them take the lead, several other students raised their hands, and once the group reached ten, Randy said, "Alright, we've got our team."
Leia, standing by, started giving instructions. "Listen up, I'll tell you what the principal approved."
With a sigh, Leia spoke unhappily. She didn't want to stay behind while Randy took charge, but the danger of the Elements made her understand why she had to stay out of the action.
After Leia finished, Randy led the team, which included Liz, Ellie, Noah, Leia, and ten students. Luke and Cecilia were assigned to the back, with Catherine on standby for emergencies. Together, they made their way into the dark, eerie old school building.
"Is this from the 'Seven Wonders'?" Randy asked, looking around.
Liz nodded. "Yeah."
At the back, Catherine whispered, "Ugh, not this place again..." but no one noticed.
They made their way to the stairs that led to the basement, where the darkness felt even colder.
"Is it just the Element of Darkness? Or is it... a ghost's den?" Randy asked.
Liz, who was behind, flinched, grabbing Randy's sleeve as if to hide.
"It's fine. Ghosts don't show up during the day," Randy reassured her.
Randy and Ellie smile wryly, and Leia, the instructor, looks at Liz with a dumbfounded expression, asking, "What's going on?"
