Volume 3 Chapter 35 Sewer Construction XI

Volume 3 Chapter 35 Sewer Construction XI

Barvish and Gardy quietly carry the recovered meteoric iron through the sewer. Only the sound of their breathing echoes in the dark tunnel. They carefully bring it to the sewer entrance behind the mansion.

"Alright, I'll call Sir Randolph. Sir Cain, please wait here."

Barvish wipes the dust off his clothes and heads toward the mansion.

"Hey, Gardy? About this chunk of meteoric iron, I'm not involved, right?"

Cain, feeling a bit scared, watches them and asks Gardy nervously, as if trying to read his thoughts.

"Of course, nothing happened this time, but how do you explain finding such a big piece of meteoric iron?"

Gardy asks, sounding colder than usual.

"Y-yes, I found it while digging in the sewer! But it wasn't easy at all..."

"Exactly. We spent 4 hard days paving the cobblestone streets in the new town, but if we say we built the sewer in just a few days and found this iron, no one will believe us."

Gardy replies with a serious look he doesn't usually show.

While they talk, Randolph and Luke come out of the mansion. They slowly approach the meteoric iron, touching and tapping it to check. Eventually, they ask Barvish, "Is this really meteoric iron?"

"Cain, we're going with this story."

Luke turns to Cain and starts asking questions, but Cain interrupts by saying,

"Yes, I found this stone in Sanroze territory, so it belongs to Sanroze. Lord Luke, please do as you wish."

Cain quickly agrees to hand over all rights to the meteoric iron.

"Cain. As a parent, I'm happy my son is honest. But since you're already a noble, we'll consider this a loan."

Luke crouches down, looks Cain in the eye, and explains.

"Randolph, I'll use this for compensation. Contact the blacksmith guild right away."

Luke stood up straight and gave instructions to Randolph.

"Understood," Randolph said, then vanished like the wind.

"Alright, Barvish, Gardy, let's continue the work."

Cain descended the stairs leading to the sewers with a refreshed smile. The two sighed deeply once again and followed behind.

"Sir Cain, where exactly are we in relation to the surface?"

Gardy asked, looking up at the ceiling as they reached the spot where the meteoric iron had been unearthed.

"Hold on a sec. [Earth Scan]... Hmm, based on this magic stone's reaction, we're probably between the Old Town Gate and the New Town Gate. Why do you ask, Gardy?"

Cain also looked up at the ceiling, mimicking Gardy.

"Well, if this was buried in the New Town construction site, I thought someone might have discovered it by now."

"Hmm, I don't think so. It's pretty deep down here, and it's under the main road, so no one would dig here."

Cain tilted his head as he replied.

"I see. Anyway, Sir Cain, you dug up a meteoric iron as a gift for Sanroze's town—that's amazing!"

 Gardy exaggeratedly praised Cain.

"Thanks, Gardy. Don't worry, I'm not bothered by it."

Cain expressed gratitude for Gardy's kindness.

"Alright, now that we're energized, let's create a large space all at once. ...[Create Hole]."

In front of Cain, a sewer passage extending to the large space materialized.
