Volume 3 Chapter 65 Let's Make A Cake
Four days after the bathhouse got finished, all the stuff and safety things were finally ready too, so now the male' bathhouse could be used. Since there was already a small one before, Cain didn't need to explain how to go in to Grandfather, but just to talk, he went in together with him and washed his back.
Grandfather's back was smaller than Father Luke's, but it still felt cool and strong. There was a big scar above his right waist, so he asked him, and he said it was from when he was young and did something dumb—he got stabbed with a sword straight through the stomach.
He looked at his stomach too and the scar was really huge. Grandfather just laughed loud like, "Gahaha," to shake it off, but like... what kind of mess did he get in to get stabbed through the stomach?
"Sir Cain, I will dry your hair."
Lala gently dried his wet hair after the bath.
"Lala. Thanks always."
Cain said thanks while getting his hair dried.
"No. This is part of my job, and also, Sir Cain's hair is soft and feels nice."
Lala smiled and kept drying his hair while going, "Hehe."
"Sir Cain, also, just now I got a message from the head chef. He said the ingredients will be ready the day after tomorrow."
"Hm? Oh yeah! Yay, now I can make cake!!"
Cain swung his legs while thinking what kind of cake to make.
* * *
People who don't normally go to the kitchen were standing there, already in aprons borrowed from the cooks, waiting to start cake-making with sparkly eyes.
"Okay! Let's make cake! I want everyone to eat it after dinner tonight, so let's work hard!"
Cain, with an apron and acting kinda fidgety, happily talked to Margrave Shield, Uncle Will, and Jody.
The cooks already made the sponge part, so first Margrave Shield started making whipped cream. He asked the helper cooks stuff while everyone started mixing the cream in a big bowl.
It took time 'cause it's not easy to get this cream. There's milk in Margrave Shield's territory, but it's not made in the main town, so this time they even moved a Cowcowbull (a cow monster they tamed) here just for this.
"Hm, this job needs patience..."
While mixing cream with good rhythm, Margrave Shield asked Cain.
"Grandfather, you're good at this. Please keep going until the 'horns' stand up. If you do that, the person who eats it will be even more happy."
Cain was listening to Uncle Will and Jody's advice, who were sneakily watching, and he stirred more carefully and faster.
"Yes, that's enough now. Please stop. Before next step, let's taste the whipped cream we made."
All 3 of them were rubbing their tired arms, but they looked happy when they scooped cream into their mouths.
"""Delicious!!!"""
The 3 shouted at the same time while looking at Cain. Cain smiled kindly back.
"That's good. Now, let's put it on the sponge cake! Even if it's a bit too much, please spread it nice. The cake also has to look good."
Jody listened and started spreading the cream slowly and carefully. Margrave Shield was a little shaky but still did good. Uncle Will was best—he spread it clean like a real chef.
"Uncle Will, you're really good. Aunt Diana's gonna be happy."
"Really? This is kinda fun. Thanks, Cain."
They were smiling all sparkle-sparkle like anime style.
In Sanroze, cakes are usually made with all different fruits. But this time, they got really good strawberries, so everyone decided to make the same "strawberry cake." But the strawberries here are more sour than the ones on Earth, so after talking with the chef, they decided to also make jam and mix it with the strawberries.
When they tried it, it was super tasty. After that, they put another sponge layer, more cream, and 3 strawberries on top to finish it. They were gonna share it, so they told the girls to cut each slice and serve 2 strawberries to each person.
"Grandfather, Uncle Will, Mr. Jody. Thanks for the hard work, it looks really yummy. When people eat it, please cut and serve and say a little thank-you too."
The 3 made tired-laugh faces. Grandfather's face going red was really funny and cute.
"Also, Cain. What's with that huge cake you're making?"
Grandfather asked while staring at the big rectangle cake in front of Cain.
"Oh, this is for the housemaids. Like, thank-you cake. It's smaller than the one for Grandmother and the others, but it's a share."
"That's nice. They'll be happy. Thanks, Cain."
Cain said "No problem!" and smiled from the praise.
