Volume 1 Chapter 66-2 Is Parisess Sinking?

 "Fix the spear!"

A thousand cavalry charged hard. Their spears hit necks but broke halfway. Horses fell.

A dagger stabbed a cavalryman trapped under a horse.

Another cavalryman's spear pierced a lightly armored soldier's belly.

The cavalry swarmed around a stopped horse. Their spears poked through armor gaps from all sides. Suddenly, the ground swallowed them with a thud.

At that moment, Georges charged at Eleonora.

 "I'll kill His Highness's enemy!"

Eleonora parried the bastard sword from horseback easy. She slashed the horse's hind legs with her magic sword.

The horse lost balance. Georges jumped off and swung his sword down. Eleonora jumped back.

 "Lately, many want revenge."

 "Shut up!"

Georges attacked again. Eleonora swung her magic sword fast.

A high-pitched metal clang rang through the battlefield.

Adalbert, guarding the horse, swung his spear down to help.

Georges swung his sword up hard, cutting the spear tip off.

"The village head is in danger!"

A village youth grabbed a stone and threw it with all his strength. The stone hit armor, but it distracted for a moment.

Eleonora used the chance to hit Georges hard with her elbow in the chest.

The hit dented his armor and left Georges gasping.

But Georges pulled a dagger from his waist and stabbed at Eleonora's chest.

Too close to dodge, Eleonora chose to lose her left arm. Metal pierced flesh, pain burned deep.

Grabbing Georges's dagger hand, Eleonora pushed hard. Bones cracked sickeningly.

They locked eyes for a second. They knew each other.

 No time to think.

A rain of arrows from the Nuse River hit the heavy cavalry, making horses fell.

Both armies turned to see the Suno people's longship — made for sea and river.

Though fewer now, still nearly 6,000 Suno troops arrived.

 "Lord Georges!"

A knight called as he rode by. Georges jumped on and left the battlefield fast.

The Loriengita cavalry's charge slowed Ashreach's building, but the Suno arrival changed things.

 "Did I interrupt?"

 "No, not really."

"I'll introduce. This is Chief Haral, who sent us reinforcements."

Erik said this, and a tall man stepped forward — bigger than both of them.

Haral leaned close to Eleonora and smiled crookedly.

 "You said you'd give land?"

"The chief's not good with our language," Erik said.

Eleonora kept her answers simple. After all, this man brought three times Ashreach's soldiers.

"Yes. All land, gold, and women we took belong to Suno."

 Haral laughed loud, happy.

"Good! Generosity matters. I, Chief, do it — it's important."

"Ah... Being generous is necessary for those in power."

 "...Yeah."

 "You, chief, Ashreach?"

Haral looked at Prince Arlecchino and frowned.

 "Looks weak."

For better or worse, Suno judged by strength alone. Political smarts? Not needed. Just strong in fights.

"Chief, he is my chief. Don't, underestimate, him."

Erik had told Haral he beat the prince and made him a subordinate.

Haral believed Eleonora — a strong man wouldn't follow a weak one for no reason.

Also, making angry a man who promised them land was bad politics.

 "So, what's the plan now?"

"Plan was to dam the Nuse River and flood the city. But with the longship, things changed."

Eleonora pointed to the longship's prow.

"We'll put a ram on it and break through the dammed river."

"That iron grille blocking the way, huh..."

"It was to stop Suno raids. If we break it, more ships can come."

They planned to live in Loriengita's west coast after the war. Eleonora was okay with risking the longship.

But Haral disagreed. So, after arguing, they chose to use two empty ships to break the dam and land the rest in the city.

Now, after a day and night, they cut the dam. Muddy water rushed out fast.

The longship, pushed by the flood, smashed the iron grille and broke it. The city flooded.

"All right, let's go and say checkmate."
