Volume 4 Chapter 5 Greeting
The beautiful elf who hugged Mr. Zain was, surprisingly, his mother. Later, the group learned that high elves live around a thousand years. When they turn one hundred, they look about twenty in human years, and their appearance hardly changes after that.
"Well, Zain, you've been gone for two hundred years. I've been lonely. Tonight, tell me everything you've been doing."
To an outsider, the way she clung to him could easily be mistaken for flirting. After a short silence, she smiled again.
"Oh my, Zain, won't you introduce your guest?"
Zain let out a sigh. "Mother, you really haven't changed at all. I'll do the introductions. Just take a step back for now."
The elf woman stepped to the side with a calm expression, as if none of that had just happened. She stood beside him with quiet dignity.
"Everyone, sorry for the late introduction. This is my mother, Salina da Fontana."
"Nice to meet you. I'm Cain Sanroze Shamrock, a knight under Margrave Shield of the Floral Kingdom. I came here as Zain's friend, so please just call me Cain. Thank you."
"Thank you for your kindness. I'm Salina da Fontana. I live here in the Forest of the World Tree. I'm very happy to meet one of Zain's friends. I'll call you Cain, then. Welcome to our home."
After that, Cain introduced Barvish, and everyone took turns greeting her with respect. Then Zain said,
"Mother, this is my partner, Merida."
Merida stepped forward.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Merida."
"You don't need to be so formal, Ms. Merida. It must've been hard for you. Zain has always been restless and moody since he was little..."
She placed one hand on her cheek and let out a soft sigh, as if remembering old times.
"That's not really true... hehe," Merida replied with a small laugh.
Everyone chuckled, and even though Zain only smiled awkwardly, the mood stayed light. He spent a peaceful time catching up with Salina.
A little later, an elf in a maid uniform arrived to tell them that the rooms were ready. Cain and the others decided to rest for a while.
The room they were led to was a maisonette-style guest room, split into two floors and four separate rooms. Barvish and Gardy took the lower floor, while Cain and Lala stayed upstairs. They changed out of their travel clothes and freshened up.
Outside the window, elves could be seen walking, working, and carrying things. The town looked lively and full of life. Inside, the rooms had many kinds of magic tools. There were lights powered by magic, a water dispenser, and most surprising of all—a magic toilet.
It looked like a Western-style toilet. After using it, they closed the lid and pressed a button. A soft sound played, and everything disappeared—no smell left behind. They tried pressing the button without closing the lid, but it didn't work, so they couldn't figure out how it worked.
After relaxing for about an hour, the doorbell rang. Lala opened the door and found Zain standing there. He had changed into more comfortable clothes and was smiling.
"Thanks for waiting. Let me show you around town. You're probably a little hungry, so I'll take you somewhere to eat too."
"I'm happy to go. But... is it okay that I haven't greeted Mr. Dadana yet?"
"I already spoke with my father. He said it's fine. Since I'm showing you around, he gave his permission. Sorry I didn't mention it earlier."
"Oh, don't worry. But is it really okay for you? After being gone for two hundred years, I'm sure there are many people you need to greet."
"I'll take care of that later. Don't worry. Let's go."
Then he followed Zain into the town under the World Tree.
