Volume 6 Chapter 73 A Conversation Between Senior And Junior──Afterward, Pseudonyms And The Like Probably First Appearance
After they talked about tomorrow's plan, everyone got ready to leave.
Thanks to Rouza's help, the Brave party also got to stay at the same fancy inn as Yukina's group—at a low price.
Relix and Mayuri didn't seem happy about it. The inn was in the same part of town as the brothel where they had their talks. That area was known as the red-light district.
In short, people often used the place for "those kinds of things." But since even castle workers stayed there, the building was strong and gave a lot of privacy. After some convincing from Gabert and Shion, they gave in and went with Rouza's choice.
Still, not everyone went back to the inn right away.
They had to stay alert, but no one stopped anyone from taking a break before tomorrow.
"I've never had Sanmoto's sake before. It tastes really good. It's not like the others I've had."
Gabert, a top-level mercenary and part of the Brave party, said so. On his way to the inn, he had dropped by a bar for a drink.
"It'd be perfect if a pretty girl served me."
Reed, next to him, added. She was already red in the face and smiling while she drank from a small cup.
"You haven't changed at all since you became a woman."
"I told you, I've always been a woman. ...Sure, I might like Yukina, but that's one thing, and this is another. Even you think sake tastes better when a cute girl pours it."
"Can't argue with that."
They both looked over at Mikage, sitting across the table.
She calmly took a small sip from her cup.
"If you want me to serve you, I can. ...But only if this is your last cup."
""Ah, no thanks.""
Her voice was soft, but her eyes didn't smile. Gabert and Reed quickly straightened up. Seeing this, Mikage let out a small sigh and drank again.
The only reason they had gathered here was because Gabert asked them to.
Even though they'd all worked as mercenaries for a long time and knew each other, it was rare for just the three of them to meet. Gabert had called them out to catch up a little.
"Well, right now I only care about my sweetheart. I still like cute girls, but I'm not taking anyone back to the inn tonight."
"You've really calmed down since the last time I saw you,"
Gabert said at Reed's words.
"The last time, you could barely act human. You were just hunger in a coat, trying to blend in."
"I know. When she first met Yukina-sama, that's exactly how she was. Like some wild dog learning to stand on two legs."
"You two..."
Reed pouted at their harsh words. But deep down, she knew they weren't wrong, so she just shook her shoulders. That she could keep it together made them respect her more.
"But if we're talking about changes, what about Silver Flash? When she showed up at the royal capital, she had an aura that pushed people away. And now we're all drinking together."
Gabert's words made Mikage frown. Reed nodded in agreement.
"When we met, you looked like a sword with no scabbard—so sharp it was scary. I had to think twice before asking you to tea."
In the end, asking her almost got her stabbed. It's kind of funny now. But while Reed laughed, Mikage didn't find it funny at all.
Still, the whole thing felt too familiar to her. Like Reed, she had no choice but to keep quiet and drink to hide her feelings.
"I'm just happy my wild little junior has grown up. I used to worry you'd do something dumb and get in trouble."
"That's kind of rude."
"You talk like an old man."
"I am an old man, at least compared to you two. Come on, show me some respect."
The older mercenary kept talking more as the drinks hit him. The younger ones sat there with annoyed faces.
"...You always act strangely kind, even with that big body of yours."
"That part of you never changed."
"Was that supposed to be a nice thing?"
Now the talk was about Gabert, but he stayed cool like always.
Gabert. First-rank mercenary.
In the royal capital's guild—full of people and full of competition—if you asked, "Who's the best mercenary?" people would say his name.
He was great with the huge sword on his back. He had finished many hard jobs. And because of all his work and talent, he earned the title Hunter—a top mercenary in every way.
He didn't become first rank by chance. He earned it through his skill and past wins. Gabert was a true top-tier fighter.
He was so good, both the guild and the country trusted him. Because of his strong real-life experience, he got picked to join Brave Relix. Now he works with Relix as a teammate and trusted senior.
