Volume 5 Chapter 10 Let's Go To Pick You Up
"It's really comfortable, isn't it~? After experiencing this, it feels like traveling by carriage will never be the same again."
Lydia murmured as she looked up at the high walls of the Margrave Shield Territory.
The six of them—Cain, Lydia, Luke, Barvish, Gardy, and Lala—had instantly traveled to the outer road leading to the Margrave Shield Territory using the Teleportation Staff from Sanroze.
"This could be a serious issue from a military perspective. Cain, how many people can you transport with that staff?"
As they approached the gate of the territory, Luke turned to Cain with a concerned expression.
"Technically, there's no upper limit," Cain replied after thinking for a moment. "But practically speaking, I'd say around a hundred people is the safe maximum. Since teleportation can't be done directly into town, we can manage it if there's proper surveillance around the arrival point."
"And once we bring Mr. Zain back, the staff is supposed to be returned, right? So we might not need to worry too much about long-term use."
"That's true. We should go over the details with Margrave Shield."
Their conversation paused as they reached the front gate. Two guards noticed Luke and immediately approached with salutes.
"Lord Sanroze, Lady Lydia—we've been informed by Margrave Shield. A carriage is being prepared. Please wait in the reception room for a moment. And welcome back, Sir Cain. Will you be traveling with them?"
"Understood. Please take care of it," Luke said with a nod.
"Yes, we'll go together," Cain added. One of the guards ran off toward the gate while the other began walking ahead, saying, "I will guide you."
By the time they reached the gate, the carriage had already arrived. Everyone boarded smoothly, and it began to roll down the cobblestone path. Around them, people bustled through the lively streets, busy with work and shopping.
"It's been a while since I came here," Luke said, gazing out the window. "Still as lively as ever. Maybe it's just me, but ever since Cain worked on the cobblestones, the whole town feels cleaner."
"I feel the same," Lydia nodded, clearly impressed.
When they arrived at the Margrave's mansion and stepped out of the carriage, they were greeted at the entrance by Margrave Shield himself, along with Aisha and Will.
"Your Excellency, thank you for the warm welcome," Luke said respectfully. "I'm sorry for the sudden visit."
"It was unexpected, but I'm glad to see all of you. Let's go inside and talk comfortably."
Margrave Shield led them into the mansion.
They moved to the reception room. Luke and Lydia were offered the sofa, while Cain, Barvish, and the others remained standing near the wall. A moment later, Margrave Shield entered with Aisha, Will, and Diana, taking the seats across from them.
Several maids brought in aromatic tea, served it politely, and then exited. Only the house steward and butler remained in the room.
"Now that it's just family and trusted companions, let's skip the formalities," Margrave Shield said with a serious look. "Luke, is this about the staff?"
"Yes. I thought it best to speak with you directly. You're Cain's master and a trusted guardian."
"I see. It's good to have someone sincere and capable... though I wish you two would act a little more like nobles now and then."
Margrave Shield leaned back on the sofa, closed his eyes briefly in thought, and then spoke again.
"What I'm about to say must not leave this room."
He opened his eyes and turned to Cain.
"Cain. Place the staff on the table."
"Understood."
Cain removed the Teleportation Staff from his magic bracelet and gently placed it on the table.
"This is the Teleportation Staff Cain received from a certain individual. As the name suggests, it's a magic tool capable of teleportation. It uses an enormous amount of mana, but it can instantly transport the user to any place they've previously visited—across the entire continent."
Margrave Shield explained, looking toward Cain.
"Yes, that's right," Cain confirmed.
Hearing this for the first time, Aisha and the others whispered in amazement.
"A magic tool like that..."
"It's hard to believe..."
"Today, Luke and the others used it to travel here from Sanroze," Margrave Shield added.
"Really?" Aisha asked, glancing at Lydia.
"Yes," Lydia replied.
"And the one who entrusted this staff to Cain is Zain, the chief of the high elf clan who resides in the World Tree Forest."
At the mention of that name, everyone in the Margrave's household—except Will—looked stunned.
