Volume 1 Chapter 60 Genderbend Female Knight Becomes A Civil Supervisor
"First, we assume the enemy army is over ten thousand strong."
Eleonora, now in command, spoke plainly to the generals, no formalities needed.
After her last battle's victory, no one dared challenge her.
"The enemy will likely invade through Pericotta Pass. We'll weaken them there first. Carve flame patterns into the ground to slow them down."
"How many patterns?"
"It's not about numbers, but how they work. Start with one big, flashy pattern to make them cautious. Then, when they think, 'Oh, just one?'—BAM! Hit them with another."
She drew two lines on the ground for the pass and a straight line for the enemy's route, adding circles as traps.
The circles were fake landmines, and the line represented the Loriengita Imperial Army.
"When they're focused on the ground, we'll drop rocks from above to block their retreat."
"Block it completely?"
"No need. Temporary blocks are fine. For now, we'll keep the Emperor moving forward."
Eleonora drew three lines and a circle on the ground.
"The first line is reverse palisades and sandbags, placed alternately."
Reverse palisades are cheap barricades made from fallen trees with sharp branches. They slow enemies down and give archers time to shoot. Plus, they're cheap.
"Why alternate them?"
Lord Poniète, curious, scratched his beard and studied the drawing.
"To split their forces. Removing palisades is tough, so they'll try climbing over sandbags instead—just stacked burlap sacks."
"What about the second line?"
"After the sandbags, they'll face a V-shaped trench with spears at the bottom. Anyone who falls in is done."
Lord Poniète frowned, imagining the spears.
"And the third line?"
Eleonora tossed a branch aside and answered Baron Vidilva.
"This is the defensive trench for archers. It's sloped to stop enemies from climbing up."
"What's the circle for?"
Eleonora added, answering Leonardo-san.
"It's the main camp to protect His Highness and a catapult position for bombardment."
"I won't risk close combat."
"Our goal is to stall until the Suno people invade Loriengita. Close combat is too risky."
"What if the enemy stops attacking?"
"That's fine. If they wait, they'll retreat eventually. Our soldiers can rest. Any more questions?"
"What if they rush the palisades all at once?"
A knight older than Eleonora asked.
"Easy. We'll use magic to attack them. Or we'll dig a huge pit in the center to trap them."
"You're full of ideas."
"Delay tactics are about thinking: What would annoy me if I were attacked? What will the enemy do? The Emperor is probably eager to attack, so we just need to trip him up."
Eleonora stood tall, looking at the generals.
"Time to dig. Let's make a grave for the Loriengita army."

Meanwhile, in Loriengita's capital, Parisess, they were worried. No news from Prince Louis's army, which should've conquered Ashreach by now.
They'd sent double the troops and four of The Twelve Sacred Blades.
Failure would be a huge embarrassment.
It was no laughing matter anymore.
"Your Majesty! A messenger from Cardinal is here! Prince Louis is dead, and four Sacred Blades were with him!"
"What happened!?"
Emperor Raimont III of Loriengita shouted at the sudden news.
"I-I don't know the details... Apparently a woman and her attendants from Holy Capital brought the coffin and when we looked inside..."

What happened that day in the Papal States before they returned the corpse? Well, the trenches were almost done.
The preserved corpse was on a carriage. Eleonora, Adalbert, and Baron Poniète headed to the Maro Papal States.
"What trouble will you cause now, Lady Eleonora?"
"Baron Poniète, you don't have to come..."
"No, since I met you, life's been fun. I want to see what chaos you'll cause in the Sacred Realm."
"You might get exiled instead of causing chaos, Baron Poniète."
Adalbert drove while Eleonora yawned between the coffins.
"This time, we're just luring the Emperor and giving him a choice. Not too boring."
