Volume 1 Chapter 5 ~ Saikachi Eri's Side ~
Summary of the previous chapter: The skill "Sweets Making" is not a cosplay brothel employee skill, just a hobby.
When I was in middle school, I was incredibly plain and quiet, what people might call an "introvert character."
I was quite shy, and I often struggled with social interactions, being a kid who had a hard time carrying on conversations.
It's not that I didn't have zero friends, but I could only talk to kids who had a similar plain and serious atmosphere; it was difficult for me to interact with others.
Because of that, conversations never really flowed easily for me.
But even in high school, if I continue to live this plain and unremarkable life without any noticeable conversations, with almost no one to talk to... I don't want that.
So, after searching for ways to make my high school debut using my phone, I found advice saying that to do so, I should focus on looking cute with my hairstyle and uniform, become friends with girls who are close to my ideal, and imitate my friends. It also said it would be good to talk to boys every day if possible.
So, I tightly held onto my little allowance and went to the beauty salon. When I asked for a cute hairstyle that would suit me, my image definitely changed a lot from before.
There's no doubt that the stiff atmosphere I had before seemed to have relaxed a bit.
Could this mean I can change into a brighter version of myself?
Once I enter high school, I won't know anyone, so I need to try not to be scared of unfamiliar people.
Then, maybe I'll start by talking to the person sitting next to me.
But, what if they seem hard to talk to...
With those thoughts, I headed towards my class, 1st year, Class 1, and found my seat, sitting down there.
It seems like there's a subtle tension, making it difficult for everyone to engage in conversation. Then, a boy enters the classroom.
He smiles and greets everyone, saying,
"Good morning, everyone."
His cheerful greeting seems to lighten the atmosphere in the classroom a bit. That's right, no need to rush. I should have started with a smile and a greeting.
After the introduction, he sits next to me. He seems easy to talk to. Thinking so, I decide to greet and introduce myself to him.
"Ah, nice to meet you. I'm Saikachi Eri. It's written as 'Saikachi' with the character for 'plum blossom' in the west."
I say this, and he returns the greeting with a smile.
"I'm Hata Akihiro. I'm Hata Akihiro. My last name is the same as the artist Hatabo. Nice to meet you, Saikachi-san."
"Yes, it's good to have someone nearby who is easy to talk to."
"I'm glad you approached me. When I approach girls, it might seem like I have some ulterior motive."
Although Hata-kun says that, he doesn't give off that vibe at all.
So, I could say with a smile,
"If it's Hata-kun, it's okay."
Yeah, it's good that the person next to me is easy to talk to.
Hata-kun is really calm, and he doesn't seem nervous at all.
That's probably why I could talk to him.
And the next day after school, I hadn't decided on joining a club, so I asked Hata-kun. He gave me a slightly surprising answer, saying he wants to join the home economics club.
It's unexpected, but it somehow suits him, and I find it curious.
When I asked a bit more, it turns out Hata-kun is quite skilled in household chores, and I was surprised.
The next day, when I went to observe the Home Economics Club, the seniors decided to make sweets, and Hata-kun surprised us again by making a White Roll Cake to rival the seniors' creations.
Apparently, Hata-kun's mother likes to make bread and cakes, so he said he "learned" how to make them, which is amazing.
After we cut the finished roll cake and arranged it on a plate to make it look good, the girls took pictures with their smartphones and posted them on Instagram. How do you think it turned out?
I think it looks pretty Instagrammable.
And Hata-kun and I decided to join the Home Economics Club, so I need to work hard and learn some recipes too.
The next day, I thought I'd change my hairstyle a bit, so I was doing a half-up in front of the mirror in the washroom when my sister muttered something.
"Both you and I have plain faces, so changing your hairstyle a bit won't make a difference."
And in response, I said...
"It... it will make a difference. After changing my hairstyle a bit, I feel different and become a new version of myself."
"Hmm, you do seem brighter than last year... it's like you've become more attractive. Have you caught the attention of any interesting guys?"
"Well, not exactly..."
I said with a teasing laugh.
"Well then, do your best. They say women become more beautiful when they're in love."
"Love... I think it's still too early to say that, but it really brings a sense of comfort and security. Being together with someone."
"Yeah yeah, it's tough to hear all this lovey-dovey talk early in the morning."
I think Hata-kun is a kind and reliable guy.
But I don't think that's just because it's me.
I wonder if he'll notice that I changed my hairstyle today?
