Volume 1 Chapter 6 It's Tough For Someone Like Me, Who Has Never Had A Girlfriend And Is An Only Child, To Quickly Notice Even The Slightest Changes In A Girl's Appearance
Summary of the previous chapter: I'm determined to make my high school debut in order to break free from my plain and introverted self.
Now, the day after the health check-up and club visitation, is the orientation.
"Orientation" means "adaptation" or "adjustment" to a new environment. It mainly refers to meetings or events held to "educate and guide new students to adapt to the new school environment".
So, what do we actually do during orientation? In the new student orientation within the school, we go around designated classrooms in groups to understand the various locations within the school, such as special classrooms, the health office, and the club building, as well as their purposes. This is also done to get to know our classmates better.
Well, some students might go to different classrooms or the club building for club recruitment, though.
After learning directly about how to use classrooms and participating in simple games in each respective classroom, receiving guidance, etc., we gather volunteers, decide on committees and assignments, and along with that, explain school rules, conduct traffic safety seminars, practice the school anthem, and more.
Unlike in junior high, where there are many unfamiliar people coming from different places, the goal is to encourage new students to make friends and build camaraderie (sense of friendship).
Separately, there is an off-campus orientation with the same purpose, but the destination seems to be Tokyo Disneyland (TDL).
It would be nice if I could chat and have a good time with group members during the waiting time, but it's tough if that doesn't happen at Tokyo Disneyland (TDL).
Anyway, as usual, I greeted the classroom entrance with a smile, but it seems that Saikachi-san has not arrived yet today.
Once I sat down, I was greeted by a boy sitting behind me.
"Ah, good morning. We'll probably be in the same group for today's orientation, so nice to meet you."
"Ah, nice to meet you too. Just to introduce myself, I'm Hata Akihiro. You're Hirose-kun, right?"
"Yeah, I'm Hirose Akihito. Nice to meet you."
"Ah, nice to meet you too."
"But seriously, Hata-kun, it's amazing how you can talk to girls so easily."

As we casually laughed and had that conversation, we heard Saikachi-san greeting us from the entrance.
"Good morning, everyone."
As usual, she came towards her seat next to mine, but wait... something feels different?
And with a smile, and an expectant atmosphere, Saikachi-san greeted me.
"Hata-kun, good morning."
This is something I often heard from the girls when I used to work in the adult industry: 'I had a day off yesterday, so I got my nails done. How do you think they look?' or 'I changed my perfume today to Chanel Chance Eau Tendre. What do you think?' It's like when they ask me that.

If you're close in age and have a good relationship with someone of the opposite gender, like with a sister or cousin, it's a different story.

“Is Saikachi-san plain-looking? I think you're quite cute and stand out, though.”
“B-being called cute seriously makes me embarrassed. But even if it's flattery, it still makes me happy.”
“It's not just flattery, you know.”
As we were talking like this, Hirose-kun widened his eyes in surprise.
“Hata-kun, are you quite the smooth talker?”
“No way, my history of not having a girlfriend matches my age, so I'm definitely not popular.”
"Even if Hata-kun's history of not having a girlfriend means he's unpopular because of his age... it's not very convincing, is it?"
Saikachi-san nods in agreement with Hirose-kun's words.
"I guess this is just natural, huh?"
And Hirose-kun also nods.
"That's just how it is, I guess."
I feel like I've been very misunderstood by these two. They keep calling me a main character or saying it's just natural, but all I can say is "No, that's not it."
