Volume 1 Chapter 26 Bagels Are Great Because They Don't Need Much Time To Ferment, You Know?

Summary of the previous chapter: It seems like I'm disliked by the boys in my class, but I might be able to get along with Shibata-san, who seems to be an otaku girl.

 Now, it's after school.

I would really like to have a conversation with Shibata-san, who seems to be into anime, but today I have a club activity for the Home Economics Club, and I usually have some kind of plans after school, so it might be difficult.

Well, maybe I can start talking to her little by little during lunch breaks from tomorrow onwards.

However, I also have to provide emotional support to Namiki-san.

By the way, although I might be able to break free from being a lonely otaku this time, it doesn't seem like I'll naturally attract people like those outgoing popular kids.

But I do feel like it would be better to be a solo otaku or a solo enthusiast who has things they want to do and can actually do them, regardless of what others think.

On the flip side, I think it's way better than being a nervous wreck who's always worried about what others think and can't do what they want.

Well, at least hanging out with good friends of both genders and doing activities in the home economics club, or filming videos with Nakagaito, it's fun and not a bit of a hassle. It doesn't matter if I'm not popular or outgoing.

Well, it seems like the world thinks of themselves as non-popular introverts, but there are also a lot of popular people out there.

Anyway, the three of us, me, Saikachi-san, and Shinonome-san, headed to the home economics practice room.

"I failed at making an omelette, so I'm worried if I can make bagels properly."

Saikachi-san said to me with a little bit of anxiety.

"Well, I think it'll probably be fine. Unlike a frying pan, it's easier to adjust the temperature and time with an oven, so I don't think it'll burn."

I often hear about cookies burning, but I've never burnt a cake or cookies myself. Well, some ovens can be a bit tricky, and the temperature inside might be higher than what's shown.

 "Oh, that's reassuring."

And here comes Osaragi-san and Utashiro-san already.

"Hey, always early, huh? Osaragi-san, Utashiro-san."

I said that, Osaragi-san replied with a smile,

"Hey, we're your senpai after all."

When Osaragi-san said that, Utashiro-san added,

"Anyway, we've got some preparations done, so let's get started."

 "Oh, okay, thank you."

"So today, let's make plain bagels and tomato bagels. For ingredients, you'll need strong flour, sugar, salt, dry yeast, and for the tomato bagels, add tomato juice. You can also add sesame seeds or cheese on top if you like. Also, since bagels are boiled, we'll use water and honey for that."

Osaragi-san said something that seemed to impress Shinonome-san.

"Wow, so you boil bagels in hot water?"

 I nodded in response, saying,

"Yeah, that unique texture of bagels comes from boiling them."

 Then Osaragi-san said,

"So, Saikachi-san, since we're teaching, how about trying it right away?"

 Saikachi-san nodded, saying,

 "Sure, thank you."

Then Utashiro-san turned to me and asked,

"Hata-kun, is it okay if you work alone?"

 "Yeah, it's fine."

Now, first of all, I place flour, sugar, salt, and dry yeast in a bowl. Next, I pour in warm water or heated tomato juice and wait until the dry yeast dissolves.

Once the dry yeast is dissolved, mix the ingredients evenly. Take the dough onto the table, turn the bowl upside down to prevent the surface from drying, and let it sit for about 5 minutes until the dough becomes a cohesive mass.

After that, knead the dough on the table for about 10 minutes, and immediately divide the dough into four pieces after kneading.

Roll each piece into a ball, with the seam side down, and cover with a damp cloth to prevent drying. Take a 15-minute bench time break.

Meanwhile, boil water and add honey to it.

Place the dough that has finished bench time on a baking sheet-lined baking tray and let it ferment for 10 minutes using the oven's fermentation function.

It seems that the fermentation time should be longer, but I don't want to spend too much time on it.

Once fermentation is complete, preheat the oven to 220°C (460°F) and add honey to the boiled water, then dissolve it. Reduce the heat once the water has reboiled.

Gently place one side of the bagel dough into the water for about 30 seconds, then flip it over and boil for another 30 seconds.

Once boiled, place the dough on a baking sheet-lined baking tray, drain the excess water, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and bake for about 15 minutes to complete the bagels.

 "Alright, it's done."

It seems that Saikachi-san has successfully baked them too.

 "I'm glad, I didn't fail today!"

After baking the bagels, slice them with a knife and fill them with tomatoes, lettuce, omelettes, and more.

"I think I'll make two of them into tuna mayo sandwiches."

When I said that, Shinonome-san quickly reacted.

 "Oh, that sounds delicious!"

"That's right, Tuna mayo goes well with bread or rice balls, you know. As for the rest, I'll make them into kiwi cream sandwiches."

 "Oh, that sounds tasty too!"

"Yeah, it'll probably be delicious, but isn't Shinonome-san eating too eagerly?"

"It's fine, I'm in my growth period!"

"Well, I'm okay with it. Since there are 8 bagels for 4 people, that means each person gets to eat 2."

 "Yay!"

So, we all enjoy the finished bagels together.

"Mmm, these bagels are so soft and amazing!"

"Yeah, if you boil them for 30 seconds each, they become easier to bite, but the longer you boil them, the chewier they get."

"Both the tuna mayo and kiwi cream sandwiches are fantastic!"

Watching Shinonome-san happily eating with a smile, it makes me feel happy too.

 "Wow, that's great!"

Saikachi-san's bagel is a BLT (Bacon Lettuce Tomato) sandwich.

 "Saikachi-san's bagel looks delicious too."

"Oh, then should we exchange our bagels, Hata-kun?"

 "Yes, I would love that!"

So, I gratefully enjoyed Saikachi-san's BLT (Bacon Lettuce Tomato) sandwich bagel, and it was delicious.

Yeah, it's fun to share and exchange homemade bagels with friends.

Hello, we have other project about someone who has returned from an isekai. The main character is a hero who has defeated the Demon Lord. However, for some reason, the human-demon war has resumed and will take place in the MC's original world. The MC, unaware of this, meets a Saint from that world and asks them to join the war. But what does the MC say? They refuse. Is it because their love was rejected by the princess when they adventured together in the past or are they simply fed up? And are the MC will join later? You can find out by clicking on the following => [Link]

We also have a similar genre returned from isekai but has different MC's characteristic. The story is punishing someone who troll in SNS, someone who cheat and many more. You can find out in => [Link]
