Volume 1 Chapter 40 Today, The Home Economics Club Is Doing An Activity On Using Leftovers Or Finding Cheap Items At The Store

Summary of the previous chapter: Shinonome-san can't do math

Right now, I'm thinking about how I can teach Shinonome-san about math.

No, it's not just math—high school teachers often teach in a way that doesn't connect with those who find it hard.

The problem is that math teachers usually "love" math and struggle to get why some hate even looking at equations.

If you get math, it's tough to get why others don't.

But here's the deal: math isn't just about studying efficiently, it's about thinking mathematically. Math has parts with set ways to solve, parts that are kinda flexible, and parts that are totally open-ended. We need to look at them separately.

And when it comes to finding a solution, if it's something that is "already decided," it's hard to make progress without understanding it. But on the other hand, if you do understand it, you can quickly find the right answer.

In the worst case scenario, if you can't solve it, it's okay to "quickly look at the answer" and just remember the steps to solve it.

Ideally, it's important to understand why it happens that way.

And if you suddenly point to a page in a thick workbook and say, "Here, if I can do this, it's good," there's a high chance that you will feel discouraged just by the thickness of the book. So, first of all, print out a free set of problems from the internet.

Well, compared to problem sets in books, free problem sets on the internet have fewer questions and children are more likely to think, "There are fewer! Maybe I can do this!"

Anyway, maybe this will somehow work.

So, it's the day of the home economics club activity.

"For now, I have to get permission to teach during club activities."

When I said that, Shinonome-san smiled sadly.

 "Yeah, that's true."

"Well, if I get a failing grade and can't participate in club activities because of extra lessons and makeup tests, it's a lose-lose situation, so I don't think they'll say no."

As I walked to the cooking class, I saw Utashiro-san and Osaragi-san already there.

"Utashiro-san, Osaragi-san, sorry to interrupt, but Shinonome-san came to me crying because she doesn't understand math at all. Can I teach her during our club activities?"

When she heard this, Osaragi-san laughed and said,

"Well, I guess you have to help her. It's better to teach her now than to fail and have to take extra exams."

 Then, Utashiro-san said,

"Okay, no problem. Today, let's think about making a dish using leftovers from the fridge and cheap items from the store, while aiming for a healthy meal."

 I agreed with Utashiro-san,

"Yes, that's important. It's cost-effective, convenient to buy, and allows for a healthy meal."

"Just relying on store-bought bento can be unbalanced, and buying salads separately can be expensive."

"If that's true, I think making yakisoba would be a good idea. You can buy instant noodles cheaply at the store. Just add some leftover meat and veggies, stir-fry them, and it tastes really good. You can also find pre-cut veggies and small packs of pork at the store nowadays."

"Oh, I get it. Let's go to the store and get the ingredients."

I gave Shinonome-san and Saikachi-san a paper with a free online problem set, one for each.

"While we shop, could you two try this out?"

 They agreed with my suggestion.

 "Sure, okay."

"Got it, I'll give it a try."

So, the two senpais and I went to the store for groceries.

"Convenience stores are great because they have vegetable stir-fry sets and diced pork for yakisoba."

I told them, and Osaragi-san nodded.

"Convenience stores might be a bit more expensive than supermarkets, but it's not too expensive."

I bought enough ingredients to make yakisoba for three people. I divided them into two portions, one with vegetables and diced pork for stir-frying. Then, I went back to the room where we learn about cooking.

 I called out to Shinonome-san and Saikachi-san.

 "Are you both finished?"

"I didn't do it very well..."

 That's what Shinonome-san said.

 "Yes, it's okay."

Saikachi-san said, and I kind of expected that, so it turned out just as I thought.

"Well, both of you must be tired from studying, so let's take a break and cook at the same time."

Studying can be tiring if you do it for a long time, especially if you're not confident. In those cases, it's easy to lose focus quickly, so it's important to take breaks often.

For the yakisoba, first, heat the frying pan and add oil. Cook the diced pork on medium heat, then add the vegetables and keep cooking. Finally, add the noodles and stir-fry for about two minutes until they turn a light brown color. Then, add salt, pepper, and powdered sauce. Stir everything together and it's ready.

If you find it too much trouble, you can also use the microwave.

"Now, since I know that Shinonome-san doesn't like math, we will start by memorizing only the most important things and give you practice solving problems."

 "Um, yeah."

"Since Saikachi-san is okay with the basics, it's better to focus on improving mathematical thinking skills."

 "Oh, really?"

"By the way, do you both know about 'Zone' and 'Routine'?"

When I asked, both of them shook their heads.

 "What's that?"

"I don't know either, but what are they?"

I explained to both of them.

"The 'Zone' is a state often seen in athletes and sports players, where they become extremely focused and concentrated. In this state, unnecessary thoughts and emotions that can hinder performance disappear, allowing the player to fully immerse themselves in the game and perform at their best. In a boys' manga called 'Kuroko no Basket,' they depict this state, although it's a bit exaggerated. The 'Zone' used to be considered a rare phenomenon that only top athletes could experience accidentally, but recently, with advancements in neuroscience research, we have a better understanding of the conditions for entering the 'Zone.' Interestingly, if we think of extreme concentration itself as the 'Zone,' it's something that anyone has experienced at some point."

"In short, what do you mean by that?"

"Well, it's like when you start reading a really interesting comic or story and can't stop, or when you get really into a foreign TV show, or when you're having a great time at Tokyo Destiny Land (TDL) and suddenly the day is over. It's a state where you're completely absorbed in something. This happens because the brain releases pleasure substances like dopamine and endorphins, and its performance gets better. So, if you can logically create the same state, anyone can get into that zone. This technique is not just for hobbies and entertainment, it can also be used for work and studying."

When I said that, Shinonome-san looked impressed.

 "Oh, really?"

"Yes, to be able to focus on studying, it's important to make studying enjoyable first. When I mentioned 'First, give Shinonome-san the experience of solving a problem,' that's what I meant. It's actually really fun to understand something you didn't know before, and if you're praised for it, your motivation increases and you keep growing."

When I said that, Saikachi-san tilted her head.

"Do you think overcoming difficult things and putting in effort is what makes it meaningful?"

"No, no. Actually, whether it's studying or sports, if you do it unwillingly, it just makes it less effective. In Japan, they often praise forcing yourself to do things you don't like, though."

 Osaragi-san said with a smile.

"Hata-kun might be good as a teacher."

 Shinonome-san confronts this.

"But in Hata-pippi's case, he might not understand girls well and cause problems."

Utashiro-san and Saikachi-san laughed and agreed.

 "That's true."

 "It's quite possible."

Why don't people trust me so much?

I don't think I've caused any misunderstandings or problems with girls, right?

Hello, we have other project about someone who has returned from an isekai. The main character is a hero who has defeated the Demon Lord. However, for some reason, the human-demon war has resumed and will take place in the MC's original world. The MC, unaware of this, meets a Saint from that world and asks them to join the war. But what does the MC say? They refuse. Is it because their love was rejected by the princess when they adventured together in the past or are they simply fed up? And are the MC will join later? You can find out by clicking on the following => [Link]

We also have a similar genre returned from isekai but has different MC's characteristic. The story is punishing someone who troll in SNS, someone who cheat and many more. You can find out in => [Link]
