Volume 1 Chapter 42 I Make An Original Tasks For Shinonome-San, And Saikachi-San Asked Me To Do The Same

Summary of the previous chapter: I suggested Nakagaito to read novels to learn Japanese.

When it comes to teaching Nakagaito Japanese, I think if she reads the textbook out loud and enjoy reading novels, it will help.

As for Saikachi-san, she already has a good understanding of math until junior high school, so if she solves exercises in the high school textbook carefully, she should be fine.

However, Shinonome-sab might be struggling with math at the junior high or upper elementary school level.

Surprisingly, many people who didn't understand elementary school topics like fractions and decimals properly and progressed to high school or university end up having difficulties in math.

So, I've decided to create tasks for Shinonome-san at a level suitable for upper elementary and middle school students, and then print them out in my own way.

Now, it's the time for the home economics club activity after school.

Osaragi-san and Utashiro-san are already here, so I ask them.

"Good morning. What are we going to make today?"

I ask, and Osaragi-san replies with a smile.

"Today, let's try making a pound cake."

"Oh, that sounds great. Recently, it has become popular as a sweet treat in convenience stores, but homemade ones are delicious too. Besides, they require fewer ingredients, are easy to make, and can be stored for a long time."

 Utashiro-san nods and says,

"Especially when we sell them at the cultural festival, it's better to have something that doesn't spoil easily."

 I agree with a nod.

"Shall we start making it now?"

Saikachi-san, sounding a little unsure, asks,

"Hmm, can I make it properly even though I'm not very skilled?"

"It's fine, it's fine. Pound cakes use baking powder, so you don't have to worry about it not rising properly like cream puffs or not having the right amount of fluffy egg whites like a Swiss roll. These things won't affect the nice texture."

"Well, if that's the case, it seems like I can handle it."

With that said, Saikachi-san and I are trying to make a pound cake this time.

The main ingredients you need for a pound cake are butter, sugar, eggs, cake flour, and baking powder.

You can also use pancake mix instead of cake flour if you have it.

After that, you can add extra things like rum, milk, lemon juice, dried fruits such as raisins, or even bananas according to your preference.

Since the butter and eggs should be at room temperature, line the pound cake mold with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 170°C (338°F).

Then, in a bowl, mix the butter and sugar together until it becomes somewhat whitish. After that, gradually add the beaten eggs in three to four parts, making sure to mix well each time.

Next, put the cake flour in a strainer and shake it over a bowl. Use a rubber tool to mix it with the other ingredients until there is no more flour.

After that, put the cake mix in a baking dish and make it flat. The edges should be a little higher than the middle. Lift the dish a little bit and drop it a few times to get rid of any bubbles in the mix.

Then, put it in the oven for about 40 minutes, or until it is cooked.

When 10 minutes have passed, take it out and cut it in the middle. This will make it look nice when it rises, but you can also leave it as it is.

"So, do you two want to study while we wait for the cake?"

 "Yes, please. Thank you."

 "OK, let's do it together."

"Then, Shinonome-san, can you do this part?"

And then, I give her math questions from the last years of elementary school, using examples like phone plans to make her easier.

 "Hmm, let me see..."

And for Saikachi-san, I have some questions for high school students that are good for people who are not very good at math.

 "Saikachi-san, try this."

I gave her a book and she looked at it and the paper that I gave to Shinonome-san.

 "OK... I will try."

They both studied, but Shinonome-san was happy and Saikachi-san was sad.

Saikachi-san can do these math problems, but maybe I was too hard for her?

I thought about that, and Saikachi-san said to me.

 "Sorry, but..."

 "What is it?"

"Can I study like Shinonome-san, who is having fun?"

"Oh, yes, sorry. I thought you could do that, but was it too hard?"

 "Yes, it was."

"OK, then next time I will make it more fun for you too, Saikachi-san."

 "Thanks a lot."

 Saikachi-san then spoke quietly.

"Because... Sayuri-chan is the only one trying hard to figure out how to solve the problems, and I'm just using the workbook as it is. It's like I'm not caring and being lazy."

I couldn't hear her well, but Shinonome-san probably heard her because she smiled and said.

 "Really, Hata-pippi causes trouble, huh?"

 "Hey, why is that?"

While we were talking, we put a stick in and baked it until the batter didn't stick. After it cooled down, we took it out of the mold, and it was done.

We all shared and ate it.

"Hmm, Saikachi-san's pound cake is well baked. It's yummy."

I said that, and Saikachi-san smiled and said.

"Hata-kun is amazing, too. It's really good."

 "Hmm, thanks."

Well, that's how the pound cake turned out well, but it's also tricky to organize the math problems so that Saikachi-san can enjoy solving them.

Still, I think being lazy is bad.

I was thinking this when Saikachi-san asked me.

"What is the thing that is different from the 'zone' that you said before?"

"Oh, you mean the routine. It is like the thing that the rugby player Taromaru Ayumu did before he kicked. He bowed his head and put his hands together. Or the thing that the baseball player Taro did when he went to hit the ball. He swung the bat with one hand two times and then stood up. He pulled the shoulder of his clothes and got ready to hit. Those are routines. There are other things too, like the scientist Albert Einstein who made the theory of relativity. He had a routine of 'thinking of a good picture before he worked'. And the 61st leader of Britain, Winston Churchill, liked to do a routine of 'painting with bright colors as he wanted'. And Helen Keller had a routine of 'feeling plants or smelling smells'. These are things that you do before when you are upset or nervous, and they help you relax and act normal. That is what a routine is."

"Oh, I get it. I've heard a bit about rugby players, now that I think about it."

"Yeah, that person got really famous for their routine. Routines help deal with nerves before exams or presentations. It's a way to relax and get rid of tension before doing something important."

 "How do you do that?"

"If you want to make a routine to relax... you come up with phrases that make you think of successful moments in the past. Then, you add specific actions to your routine. The words should be ones that mean a lot to you, and the actions should be simple things you don't usually do every day—easy and can be done in any situation."

"Oh, I see. That could be helpful during exams, for sure."

"Yeah, but getting into the routine or zoning out doesn't happen right away. You have to keep working on it."

As I said that, Shinonome-san smiled a bit.

"Does it all come down to that?"

"That's the main idea. Unfortunately, there's no magic way to make everything super easy. It's good to try and make things a bit better, but... Of course, even if you are not good at something, you can still learn it."

Well, whether it's a zone or a routine, it's not like people can't learn it if they don't have talent, so there's no point in trying to learn it.

Hello, we have other project about someone who has returned from an isekai. The main character is a hero who has defeated the Demon Lord. However, for some reason, the human-demon war has resumed and will take place in the MC's original world. The MC, unaware of this, meets a Saint from that world and asks them to join the war. But what does the MC say? They refuse. Is it because their love was rejected by the princess when they adventured together in the past or are they simply fed up? And are the MC will join later? You can find out by clicking on the following => [Link]

We also have a similar genre returned from isekai but has different MC's characteristic. The story is punishing someone who troll in SNS, someone who cheat and many more. You can find out in => [Link]
