Volume 2 Chapter 12 Thanks To Nakagaito, I Have Learned How To Play Volleyball Properly For Now

"I think I understand passing, serving, and receiving. But when it comes to spiking, is it difficult to practice without a volleyball court and net?"

 I asked Nakagaito about it.

"If you are really serious about practicing, then yes. But for basic things, you can do it without a court or net, you know?"

 Nakagaito chuckled and answered.

"Oh, is that so? Then what should I do?"

"Well, let's start by practicing the approach and jump for spiking without using the ball to solidify the form."

"I see. Maybe it's better to start with that rather than using the ball right away."

I said that, and Namiki-san agreed with a nod.

"In that case, it seems like we can start right away. Now, for spiking, especially for right-handed players, it's right foot, left foot, right foot, left foot in that order. The first step with the right foot is small, the second step is a bit larger. Between the second and third steps, swing both hands back to gather strength. On the third step, take a big step forward, shift the weight slightly backward, focus on the right foot as the main support, and let the left foot lag a bit while stepping inward. Let me show you once for now."

We listen to what Nakagaito says.

"Ah, if you just tell me, I won't understand at all. It would be helpful if you could show me."

 "Please."

"Well then, I will show you."

Nakagaito demonstrates the approach run right in front of us. Even though we couldn't understand how to move our legs just by listening, we somehow got a sense of it by watching.

"I see, let me try it."

I copy Nakagaito's approach run and attempt to jump.

"No, that's not right. You're not supposed to push off with both feet at the same time at the end! The important thing is to push off with the right foot and the left foot follows."

 "Oh, I understand. I'm sorry."

After repeating it several times, I finally think I have the correct form.

 "That's it, just like that."

Namiki-san is slightly surprised by the conversation between me and Nakagaito.

 "It's strict, huh? Hahaha..."

 "Yes, now it's your turn."

"Yes, I will do my best."

Namiki-san, like me, initially struggled, but after practicing it several times, it seems she got the hang of the approach run.

"Okay, next, when you jump, try to touch the ball up high without moving your hand back, but extend it forward as the ball comes towards you.

"Ah, I understand. It's like catching and throwing with your hand during passes, or remembering the position for headers."

"Yes, exactly. Remember the timing of the run-up and jump for the rising ball, and you should also remember the timing for spiking as you finish your arm movement. I'll toss the ball up, so give it a try."

 "Got it."

 "Understood."

As Nakagaito throws the ball in front of me, I'll run up with the ball and jump, reaching out to touch it.

"No, no, the timing is off. Touch the ball at the highest possible position. Also, don't stand right below the ball; you need to touch the ball slightly in front of your body for it to enter the opponent's court properly and to give your spike power."

 "Alright, I got it."

So, it's like this. Once the timing for touching the ball in front of your body during the jump is right, when you have the ball, pull your throwing shoulder back, rotate your hips, bring the ball forward, pull your left hand to your body, put power into your abdomen, and practice throwing the ball.

Additionally, we continued practicing hitting the ball without jumping, and finally succeeded in practicing the open spike from the toss.

"Well, I guess it's starting to come together, even if it's just a temporary solution."

Upon hearing that, Nakagaito laughed and said,

"It's definitely improving, right? But we won't know for sure until we set up the net and try it in a game format."

In response to Nakagaito's comment, Namiki-san nodded and said,

"Thank you so much. With this, we won't have to worry about the ball not going in and the atmosphere in the venue becoming awkward."

I also thanked Nakagaito and said,

 "Thank you so much."

"Hey, don't act like I'm doing this for your sake or anything. There's no need to thank me."

Perhaps Nakagaito isn't accustomed to being relied upon or complimented due to her family background, but I genuinely believe she's a good person.

And it's really enjoyable and exciting to practice happily with classmates for the upcoming sports festival, instead of practicing alone without being able to have conversations.

Hello, we have other project about someone who has returned from an isekai. The main character is a hero who has defeated the Demon Lord. However, for some reason, the human-demon war has resumed and will take place in the MC's original world. The MC, unaware of this, meets a Saint from that world and asks them to join the war. But what does the MC say? They refuse. Is it because their love was rejected by the princess when they adventured together in the past or are they simply fed up? And are the MC will join later? You can find out by clicking on the following => [Link]

We also have a similar genre returned from isekai but has different MC's characteristic. The story is punishing someone who troll in SNS, someone who cheat and many more. You can find out in => [Link]
