There was a problem when I bumped into Namiki-san and accidentally pushed her down, but luckily, neither I nor Namiki-san got hurt.
We both went back to our assigned spots and started practicing again.
"Okay, let's try again!"
Shinonome-san hit the ball with a strong floater serve.
To avoid making the same mistake, this time I concentrated on seeing the whole field with my side vision instead of just looking at the ball. I observed the ball's movements and the other players broadly.
Surprisingly, by doing that, I could understand the ball's movements better. It seems that even people can notice changes in colors in their central vision, while they can sense light and dark changes well in their side vision. This helps them see whether objects have moved or not.
"Alright!"
This time, I called out early, so Namiki-san didn't have to run after the ball.
I go to where the ball is falling and receive it in the same position as for an underhand pass. Instead of hitting it back with my hand, I use the cushion of my knees to absorb the momentum of the ball. Then, I stand up, and hit the ball from below, so I can send it where I want.
"Great!"
I sent the ball, Nakagaito threw it high to Hirose-kun, and Hirose-kun made a spike over Gouriki-kun's block.
"Good job, that worked!"
As I said that, Shinonome-san moved from the other side to our side.
"Let's change positions. Should I receive next?"
I nodded.
"Yes. Gouriki-kun serves, Hirose-kun blocks, Nakagaito attacks, and Shinonome-san and I receive, sound good?"
"Yes! Just don't confuse me this time and push me down next time."
Shinonome-san says while laughing.
"Hey, don't get it wrong. I didn't mean to do that. If you want to do something like that, you should choose the right time and create the correct atmosphere. And, of course, you should ask the other person if it's okay before doing it."
I say that, and Shinonome-san responds a bit surprised,
"Huh? S-so you want it back..."
What kind of reaction did you expect?

Gouriki-kun throws the ball up and hits a floater serve.
The ball is between me and Shinonome-san, but a bit closer to Shinonome-san.

In sports like volleyball or baseball, where there are multiple defensive players, it's common for mistakes like this to happen. The ball falls between the players, and they end up giving each other the chance to take it, resulting in no one actually catching the ball and a point being lost. It's quite a waste.
"Um, haha, sorry!"
"Well, maybe it's hard for the person catching the ball to decide who should get it. It might be better for the person setting the ball to tell us where it's going and who should get it."
When I said that, Shinonome-san nodded.
"Right."
And Namiki-san nodded too.
"So, that means I should tell everyone what to do, right?"
"Yes, please."
"Okay, here I go."
After that, Gouriki-kun threw the ball and did a floating serve.
It looks like the ball is going to be in a tricky spot again...
"Hata-kun!"
Namiki-san's instructions came to me.
"Roger that!"
I quickly moved to where the ball was falling, lifted the ball, and Nakagaito spiked it after adjusting Namiki-san's throw. However, Hirose-kun blocked it.
"Hirose-kun, good job."
When I said that, Hirose-kun smiled a little and said
"Well, there is a difference in height, you know."
"But I don't think that's the only reason."
After that, we moved around, took all the positions, and I think the team has somewhat formed.
