Volume 2 Chapter 21 American High Schools Are Very Different From Japanese Ones
Kokonoe-san and Saikachi-san easily won the first round of the sports competition with a score of 6-0.
Well, in tennis, winning without losing a game is not uncommon, even with a noticeable difference in skill.

I cheered for them as they gave each other a high-five.

I gave them a bottle of sports drink, and they accepted it.

Kokonoe-san said that and quickly drank the sports drink.
"Tennis really makes you move, so this helps a lot."
Saikachi-san also took a sip of the sports drink, taking a break.
"Both of you were amazing. Kokonoe-san's serve speed is on par with the nationwide high school girls' tournament in Japan, and Saikachi-san's ball return was solid and reassuring."
I said that, and Kokonoe-san smiled and said,
"Oh, you say nice things, but no matter, nothing change, okay?"
Then, Saikachi-san said shyly,
"Because Kokonoe-san was covering the left half of the court as the vanguard, I was able to focus on defending the right half."
In doubles tennis, it becomes easier if the vanguard properly defends their area, but it seems that there are often cases where they cannot react to the speed of the ball, resulting in the burden on the rearguard doubling or more.

Our school regularly takes part in the Chiba Prefecture High School Theater Central Presentation, so that must be the reason.

"Well, after that, in America, if it's a public school, middle school and high school students can choose their own clothes. However, many private Christian schools and magnet schools get specific uniforms."
Shinonome-san looks confused after hearing Kokonoe-san's words.
"Magnet Schools?"

"Magnet schools bring smart students together and teach a different kind of learning, like special classes for talented students."
Hearing that, I say,
"And, in America, they even have skipping grades and things like that, right?"
Kokonoe-san nods and says,
"Ah, in American high schools, you don't have fixed classmates 'cause you go to difurento classrooms for each subject you study."
Impressed by those words, Saikachi-san says,
"I see, it's totally different from Japanese high schools."
Experiencing the uniform classes in Japanese high schools would indeed be challenging in that regard.
