Volume 2 Chapter 22 Second Game On The Day Of The Ball Game Tournament
Kokonoe-san and Saikachi-san had just finished their tennis match and we had a little chat. It was time to go back to the gymnasium.
"Well, let's go back to the gym soon because we have the next match."
"Hai, got it."
Kokonoe-san said with a smile. Then, Saikachi-san also said.
"Good luck in the next match. We have some time before our next match, so we'll cheer for you."
"I join too desu."
"If that's the case, we really need to do our best, right?"
Shinonome-san said with a mischievous smile, and continued,
"After all, Hata-pippi, you can't afford to embarrass yourself in front of the girls, right?"

"Don't put so much pressure on me."
Since Kokonoe-san and Saikachi-san are kind enough to support us, I don't want to embarrass myself, but it's still a bit nerve-wracking.
The next team we are facing is the 3rd-year class, who are already qualified for the first round. Our volleyball team gathered in a circle to discuss the upcoming match. Once again, it was Shinonome-san who took the lead in speaking.
"Well, there might be taller players than us in the first round, but let's stay calm and give it our best shot."
I nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, being qualified for the first round means they're probably skilled, but let's aim for victory since we've made it this far."
Namiki-san seemed composed this time.
"Y-yes, let's do our best."
And with that, the second match of the ball game tournament began. This time, it started with the opponent's serve. A tall female student tossed the ball high and delivered a powerful jump float serve.
"Here we go!"
The jump float serve, with its high hitting point, had a speed and power that far surpassed the underhand serve. However, that didn't mean it was impossible to handle calmly.
"Hata-pippi!"
I nodded in agreement with Shinonome-san's instructions and went towards the spot where the ball was falling.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of it!"
Saying that, I jumped to catch the falling ball and somehow managed to receive it.
"That was a great catch!"
Shinonome-san then set the ball for Hirose-kun.
"Here you go!"
Hirose-kun's powerful hit was blocked cleanly by a male student in front, but Namiki-san managed to receive it up, and then Shinonome-san set the ball for Gouriki-kun. Gouriki-kun spiked the ball and sent it crashing into the opponent's court.
"That was an amazing shot!"
I cheered for Gouriki-kun and gave him a high-five.
Hirose-kun's hit was almost successfully blocked by the male student in front, and it was quite a tough fight.
"That blocker who's following Hirose-kun is really good at blocking, maybe he's even a regular player on the volleyball team. Maybe he's a middle blocker?"
The position of the middle blocker is focused on blocking and is an important defensive position along with the receive specialist libero.
"I think it's hard to go through the block directly, so how about aiming for the fingertips of the opposing blocker and trying to make the ball go out of bounds?"
When I suggested that to Hirose-kun, he gave a small smile.
"In simpler terms, well, I'll give it a try."
Then I heard Saikachi-san encouraging us.
"Do your best! The opponent is also tired."
Next, I heard Kokonoe-san saying:
"Fighto desuyo!"
Although the second round was much tougher than the first, we managed to win by not giving up and continuing to receive the ball.
Shinonome-san took the lead in cheering.
"Yay, we cleared the second round!"
"By the way, Hirose-kun is reliable."
When I said that, he smiled wryly in response.
"Well, I don't want to show a sad losing scene, especially when I have support from the girls."
"I think that's correct."
Well, I didn't help much with scoring, but we were able to win somehow. It's a good thing, though.
