Volume 2 Chapter 37 Saikachi-San Is Using The Lunch Bag I Gave Her, But She Changed It A Bit
Today is lunchtime again.
Lately, the weather has been strange because of the rainy season, so I've been eating lunch in the classroom instead of outside.
As usual, I was getting ready to eat the lunch Saikachi-san made for me. However, the lunch bag she pulled out looked similar to the one I made two days ago.
"Hey, is that the one I made in the home economics club the other day? Oh, but the shape seems a bit different, right?"
I said that, and Saikachi-san blushed and replied,
"Yes, yesterday after school, I got permission to use the clothes room and changed the lunch bag Hata-kun gave me to make it easier to put the lunch box in."
I looked at Saikachi-san's lunch bag and tilted my head.
"Even though you say you changed it, adding a cloth to the bottom to make it flat, putting extra fabric on the sides to keep the lunch box from tipping over... It was almost like making it from the beginning, wasn't it?"
Saikachi-san moved her head from side to side.
"Well, it's not too hard. Making a bag with a drawstring can be a bit tricky, but just finishing it can make a big difference."
"Well, I guess you're right. Anyway, if we take too long, lunch break will be over. Let's eat our packed lunches."
Saikachi-san agreed.
"Yes, let's do that."
Today, we have ginger pork on the menu. With shredded cabbage, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, and rolled omelet, it looks very colorful. The rice is sprinkled with sesame salt.
Although my lunch and Saikachi-san's lunch have different amounts of rice, the menu is the same.
"When the main dish is meat, it can look a bit dull. But with some red, yellow, and green, it becomes bright and colorful. Plus, it's healthier."
I said as I took a bite of the ginger pork.
"And, the sweet and savory taste of ginger is really yummy. It seems a bit different from the ginger pork sauce you buy at the store, though."
When I asked Saikachi-san, she smiled and said,
"Oh, yes. Instead of buying grated ginger from the store, I use chopped ginger and season it with soy sauce, sugar, and mirin."
"I understand. Using chopped ginger really brings out the ginger flavor. Saikachi-san, you're really diligent."
"I-it's not that much. There are many ginger pork recipes out there. I just tried to find something that's simple and delicious, that's all."
"I think being able to do that is wonderful."
While chatting about these things, we somehow finished our lunch.
"Thank you for the meal today as well. I really appreciate it every time."
"No, no. I'm making my portion anyway, so the effort of cooking doesn't change much, and it's fine."
Saikachi-san really seems like she could be a great wife, doesn't she?
