Volume 2 Chapter 38 Shopping At Nippori Textile Town Was Surprisingly Fun

Today, after school, we will go shopping in Nippori Textile Town.

It's only a 40-minute train ride from Tsunaduma, so not too far.

It's 3:30 pm now, so we should get there before 4:30 pm, even with walking.

The best part is, if we take the Keisei Line, we don't need to change trains.

But if we take the JR Line, we could go to Akihabara and change to the Keihin-Tohoku Line, and it would take the same time.

"If we go to Nippori by JR, it might be crowded between Akihabara and Nippori, so it's better to go by the Keisei Line."

 I said, and Osaragi-san agreed.

"Yes, that's true. At this time, the trains going in that direction should be less crowded, so we might even find seats."

 Saikachi-san asked,

"Nippori Textile Town is sometimes talked about on TV, but is it really that amazing?"

Utashiro-san answered while tilting her head.

"The Nippori Textile Street is a very popular place for people who like to make things by hand and sew in the Kanto region. People come here to shop before events. It's a place where you can buy a lot of different materials that you can use to make things, like fabric and thread. The prices are affordable because it's a place where things are sold in large quantities. But some of the shops might be closed on Sundays and public holidays, and some might close at 5 PM."

Because I'm worried, I ask her,

"If they close at 5 PM, it might be difficult for us to get there on time and they'll be closed."

 Utashiro-san laughs and says,

"Oh, this time I don't plan on going to a lot of different shops. The TOMATO store I want to go to is open until 6 PM, so it's okay."

 I feel relieved and say,

"Yes, if they're open until 6 PM, then it should be fine."

 Then, Shinonome-san says,

 "Okay, let's go quickly."

So, we first take a bus from school to Keisei Tsunaduma, and from there, we take the express train on the Keisei Line to Nippori.

It was crowded at first, but I found a seat when I got off at Kenbune Funabashi on the Keisei Line.

Saikachi-san, sitting next to me, smiled and said,

"It's fun going out together, right?"

 I smiled back and replied,

"Yeah, it feels like a school trip."

 Then Shinonome-san suggested,

"Let's set the snack budget at 300 yen. We can buy some when we get to Nippori, okay?"

 I smiled awkwardly and said,

"I remember there's a candy store near the station in Nippori. Should we get some from there?"

 Even Shinonome-san seemed surprised,

"Oh? There's such a place? We must go there."

 Saikachi-san added with a smile,

 "That sounds fun too."

So, even though it was not our original plan, we decided to visit the last remaining candy wholesaler in Nippori.

It's strange that there's a candy store in a tall apartment building near the station, but they have many different boxed candies.

"Well, the store only sells things in boxes because it's a wholesale store,"

Even though a single candy costs ten yen, it's enough for just one coin since there are 30 to 50 pieces in a box.

Old-fashioned toys like spinning tops, paper dolls, marbles, and paper balloons are all crowded together with pickled radishes, sweet bean dumplings, kinako sticks, and various snacks like apricots, squid, and mini calpas.

There might be candy sections in supermarkets nowadays, but their selection is nothing compared to a proper candy store.

Well, they close at 5 pm, so we need to make our purchases quickly.

It's fun to discuss with everyone which ones to choose while chatting excitedly.

I bought pickled radishes, Shinonome-san got the chocolate candy Black Lightning, Saikachi-san chose millet dumplings, Osaragi-san went for fruit mochi, and Utashiro-san opted for a box of snack calpas.

Then, we went to the TOMATO Main Building, which is located in the middle of the main street of Nippori Higashi Exit, commonly known as "Textile Street."

It seems quite calm here, maybe because it's a weekday.

The main building has five floors, and it looks like they handle different types of fabrics on each floor.

"Let's start by searching for some affordable fabric on the first floor. They have unique patterned fabrics in the 100-yen corner, and they only cost 100 yen per meter."

 Osaragi-san said, and I replied.

 "That's really cheap."

Now, ee explore the wide variety of fabrics from top to bottom, looking for fabrics that we like.

"Maybe I should go for a simple black cotton, if possible."

I plan to make shorts, but I also want to practice making a cosplay outfit for fun.

So, I purchase black cotton fabric and a pattern for shorts.

On the other hand, Saikachi-san seems to be considering canvas for a tote bag.

"There are so many colors and patterns that it's a bit overwhelming."

In the end, Saikachi-san decides to buy a white fabric with a simple pastel circular pattern for her tote bag, after thinking about it for a while.

"I'm excited to do this for real."

I agreed with Saikachi-san, who smiled.

"Yes, I agree. Making it from scratch is harder than using a sewing kit, but that's what will make it even more fun and satisfying once it's finished, don't you think?"

I discovered that making dresses, even the preparation part, is more enjoyable than I expected.

Hello, we have other project about someone who has returned from an isekai. The main character is a hero who has defeated the Demon Lord.
