Volume 2 Chapter 45 Making Clothes Turns Out To Be More Fun Than I Expected
At the cultural festival this weekend, Fumi-chan seemed sad at first, but then she became happy again.
As a thank you, I'm going on a date with Fumi-chan next Saturday, and I'm going shopping with Gouriki-kun on Sunday.
Tomorrow is the last Monday of our club activities before the big test, so I really want to finish the shorts by the end of this week and have a good cosplay costume ready for Comic Market.
The next day after school.
I, Saikachi-san, and Shinonome-san, the usual group, went to the clothing room in the home economics practice room.
"Sewing again today, huh?"
Shinonome-san said that, and I laughed a little.
"Well, since it's the home economics club, sewing and crafts are part of what we do, not just cooking."
I said that, and Shinonome-san looked a little disappointed.
"I still want to eat delicious things, though."
"Well, of course, when you think of home economics, cooking comes to mind. But I think using a sewing machine to create something can be fun too."
I said that, and Saikachi-san agreed.
"Yes, making clothes is enjoyable."
Osaragi-san and Utashiro-san were already present today.
It seems like they have already set up the sewing machine and everything else.
"As usual, you both are early, Osaragi-san, Utashiro-san."
I said that, and Osaragi-san replied with a smile.
"Hello, we are seniors after all. We have already tested the sewing machine and everything. So let's begin creating what each of us wants to make using the fabric we bought last week in Nippori."
I nodded and said.
"I'm always sorry, thank you very much. Well, let's start right away."
And so, we immediately began making shorts.
First, we prepared the pattern and adjusted it to fit my body size.
Then, we placed the pattern on top of the fabric.
For the main part of the pants, we placed the pattern for the pocket and belt on top of the fabric, starting with the larger pieces, and then placed the pocket fabric and belt fabric in the remaining areas. We put weights on top of the pattern and cut along the pattern with scissors.
Sew the pocket fabric onto the main fabric of the pants. Then, open the sewn part and iron it. After that, stitch about 5mm from the edge of the pocket opening to prevent the fabric from fraying.
By sewing the crotch of the front and back pants of the main pants together, the shape starts to take form.
"Yes, I can kind of see the completion."
When I said that, Shinonome-san seemed impressed.
"Oh, it's surprisingly easy to do, huh?"
"Yes, that's correct. When you hear about sewing, you might think it's difficult, but it's unexpectedly easy and interesting."
When I said that, Shinonome-san tilted her head.
"If that's the case, can I do it too?"
"At first, you can start with simple things like drawstring bags or even easy items like cleaning cloths. Doing these things is similar to studying; if you can do them well, you'll gain confidence, and you'll gradually understand the tips and tricks."
Looking at Saikachi-san, who was making a tote bag, it seemed quite well-done, and she was incredibly skilled.
"Saikachi-san is really good. Not just at cooking, but also at getting better quickly."
When I said that, Saikachi-san turned red and smiled.
"I can do a lot of things, that's all."
"But you're good at everything. I'm not good at sports or singing."
I said that, and Shinonome-san agreed.
"Hata-pippi has a big difference between what he can do and what he can't."
"No, don't take that seriously."
While we were talking, a lot of time passed.
Osaragi-san told us.
"Let's stop here for today."
I agreed and stopped working.
"Doing these small tasks does take time. But it looks like we can finish by Wednesday."
When I said that, Saikachi-san added.
"I just have to put on the zipper, so it's fine to finish today."
Without needing a zipper, Saikachi-san's tote bag already looks finished.
"Hmm, I wonder if it's a difference in talent or skill."
When I said that, Saikachi-san told me to follow her.
"You see, my bag is just a basic tote bag, so it didn't take long to cut and sew."
"Well, maybe that's also something to consider?"
So, even though shorts are relatively simple, I noticed that there's still some effort required.
If you're planning to make a cosplay outfit from scratch, it's a good idea to plan ahead and allow plenty of time.
