Volume 2 Chapter 62 I Was Really Grateful To Learn From Someone Who Makes Their Own Costumes
Well, I went to Yuzawa-ya with Saikachi-san to buy fabric for homemade shorts, had lunch at a bistro, and then we went to the planetarium. It was a great time.
"Saikachi-san, thank you for today."
"Oh no, I had a lot of fun too. Oh, here are the fabric and patterns for the shorts."
"Oh, okay, got it. I'll try to make them as soon as possible."
When I said that, Saikachi-san smiled and said,
"You don't have to push yourself during the exam period. But if possible, I would like them before summer vacation. It would be helpful if I could wear them at home."
"Understood, I'll do my best."
We parted ways at Tsunaduma station, and I headed home.
And the next day, Sunday, is the day I will learn sewing from Yayoi-chan and Aunt Satsuki.
"Well then, I'm off."
And as I was about to leave the house, my mother said something unexpected.
"Oh, I want to see my sister occasionally, so I'll go too."
"Yeah, sure. Let's go together then."
And so, I went out with my mother.
From Magomezawa, we crossed Kamagaya and Shinkamagaya and got off at a station in the area around the Otsu River on the east side. That's where Yayoi-chan and her family live.
Yayoi-chan's house is a part-time farming family. They have rice fields and bamboo groves where they can harvest bamboo shoots, as well as fields where they grow corn and potatoes. They even have a tourist pear orchard, and during the harvest season, quite a few tourists come for pear picking.
And I remember they had chickens and dogs in their yard.
However, that was when I was in third grade and Yayoi-chan was in sixth grade, so I don't know if it's still the same now.
"But the scenery hasn't changed much, has it?"
"Maybe it's because the Self-Defense Forces base is nearby?"
"Oh, yeah, that could be it."
In the vicinity, there are few tall buildings on the east side of station, perhaps due to the presence of the Maritime Self-Defense Force Shimofusa Air Base. Instead, there is a relaxed, countryside-like rural landscape spreading out.
And Yayoi-chan's house didn't seem to have changed much at first glance.
In addition to the large main house and spacious yard, there is a barn for drawing well water to wash vegetables, a garage where small trucks, tractors, and personal cars can be parked, and the dogs and chickens were still there, unchanged.
"Hey, how have you been?"
"Woof."
It seems that the dog hasn't forgotten me after all.
However, it barks a lot at the mail delivery and courier people.
"Hello, sister. It's been a while."
Mom said that to Aunt Satsuki, but since Mom lost weight, they really do look like sisters.
Mom died early due to diabetes, but Aunt Satsuki has managed to live a long life. However, she is over 80 now and has become quite forgetful. I heard that taking care of her became quite difficult, so it's not an easy situation.

"Aki-chan has grown so much, even though he used to be so small."
"That's right, sis. Akihiro is already a high school student."
"Time flies, doesn't it?"
It seems that for Aunt Satsuki, my image was still that of a little elementary school kid.
"Um, I understand that everyone is feeling nostalgic, but the reason I came today is because I want to learn dressmaking..."
When I said that, Aunt Satsuki smiled and said,
"Oh dear, I'm sorry. Well then, let's all go in."
So, we were shown inside the house.
"The inside of the house looks really neat, doesn't it?"
I asked, and Aunt Satsuki replied,
"Yes, it's been renovated."
"I see, you've made the inside of the house beautiful."
"It was quite old, though."
Then we were shown the sewing room, which had a table with sewing machines, mannequins, and shelves full of sewing threads.
"Wow, that's amazing."
I said, and Yayoi-chan said with a smile.
"Hehe, it's not that great, though."
"But, it's really amazing. I envy my sister a little because I stopped sewing."
Mom said that, and Aunt Satsuki also said with a smile,
"Originally, it was a house designed for a large family in a farming community, but now there aren't many people, so there are extra rooms. That's why we renovated it. Um, shall we begin then?"
"Oh, yeah. I want to make this kind of clothes."
I took out the "Kimetsu no Yaiba" comic and showed the character's clothes.
"The bottom clothes are quite loose, and the top is a haori, so as long as there's patterned fabric, it shouldn't be too difficult."
I was a little surprised by Satsuki's nonchalant response.

So, I was being measured for my body by Aunt Satsuki and Yayoi-chan.
"You've really grown a lot."
"Mom hasn't seen him for about 6 years. Ak-kun is already a high school student, so it's natural to have grown."
"Yes, time flies, doesn't it?"
According to the size of my body that was measured, it seems that Aunt Satsuki is cutting the pattern for the uniform and the haori.
"The pattern here is for the upper front right..."
She kindly teaches me like that.
And she pastes the cut pattern with mending tape to make it look like clothing that fits me.
"It looks fine like this."
Aunt Satsuki smiled and said.
"Thank you very much. It's really helpful."
As expected, it's helpful to learn from someone who makes their own costumes.
