Volume 1 Chapter 7 Overpowering Dragon
In the sky, there was the figure of a gigantic black dragon.
Roarrr!
Without question, it spewed flames.
"—Wait, a sudden Dragon Breath!?"
"This is bad...!"
Bernard-san stepped in front of me.
"I'll try to create a defensive barrier and protect you, at least!"
"Bernard-san..."
"'Magic Defense Wall (Shield)'!"
With an incantation, a pale green defensive field enveloped us.
As soon as the breath touched it, intense sparks crackled.
Just being able to withstand the powerful Dragon Breath, which could easily pierce through with a normal defensive spell, was already quite impressive.

"I'll go knock it down for a bit."
As I said that, I drew my Copper Sword.
If I get closer, it will attack with its claws, fangs, and tail.
It probably won't work on me, but Bernard-san might get caught up in it.

"I'll finish it from this distance──"
I swung my sword.
The dragon looked at me warily.
"Shatter!"
With a shout of determination, I swung down my sword.
I struck with the force of my sword pressure.
A roar, an explosion, and the sound of severing echoed.
One strike that cuts through space, bisected the dragon's massive body...
Boommmm.
The bisected dragon's corpse fell, causing the ground to shake.
"You... Aren't you amazing?"
Bernard-san was stunned.
"Hahaha, all I can do is laugh."
"Well, um..."
I feel embarrassed.
"I'm sorry. I wanted to protect you, the newcomer, by accompanying you... but I ended up getting in the way."
"That's not true. It was reassuring to have you with me."
I smiled at Bernard-san.
"Indeed, I get nervous when I'm solo"
"No doubt..."
As he said that, his face turned pale.
It seemed he couldn't stand up, his legs giving out.
"Thank you for coming with me."
I bowed to Bernard-san.
Suddenly, I understood.
Bernard-san was actually scared too.
He had accompanied me, enduring the fear, all because of the reckless newcomer who suddenly suggested dragon extermination - in other words, for my sake.
Thank you, Bernard-san.
I thanked him once again in my heart.
And thus, my first quest with the 'Blue Crystal' came to an end.
