Volume 1 Chapter 69 Flashback - Allen And Ellis, Part Two

After two days of traveling with their adventurer party, Allen and Ellis arrived safely in the town.

The adventurer party consisted of all C-Rank members, led by a bearded man.

Along the way, they taught Allen and Ellis various things about the basic flow of life and mindset as adventurers, starting from registering at the Adventurer's Guild to getting their abilities appraised.

Allen and Ellis, who knew nothing about the outside world, listened attentively to their stories, not just about adventurer knowledge but also about the many things they would have to do. Ellis found it more overwhelming than she had expected, while Allen didn't say much.

The town was bustling with many people, much more lively than the village where they had been living.

Ellis looked with great interest at the neatly lined up buildings and the people with different appearances that she had never seen in the village.

When they arrived in front of a particularly large building facing the main street of the town, the adventurers stopped walking.

"Well, we've arrived. This is the Adventurer's Guild. We should go together to report the completion of our mission at the reception. You might be surprised during the Ability Appraisal, but don't worry. It's something every adventurer goes through, feeling both excited and anxious about the results."

 "Is that so?"

"It's not an exaggeration to say that the way we conduct ourselves as adventurers will be determined by the Ability Appraisal. But you don't need to worry about that. Let's go in."

Following the instructions of the party leader, the two of them stepped into the Adventurer's Guild building for the first time.

Inside, there were many adventurers. Some were lining up in front of the reception, others were carefully reading the requests posted on the bulletin board, and some were chatting with their companions.

Ellis felt an unfamiliar excitement and couldn't help but feel like she was in the wrong place.

The Adventure Party lined up in the waiting line altogether.

And when it was their turn, they gave the document, which the village head had verified, to the staff member. After the staff finished reading the contents, the man received a leather bag containing silver coins in exchange.

The leader of the party patted the shoulders of two people and, along with his companions, moved towards the wall to look in this direction.

 "Next, please."

When it was their turn, Allen and Ellis walked together to the front of the reception desk.

"Adventurer Registration, please. My name is Allen."

"Oh, a newcomer... You have a good look. Well then, let's get started. Try placing your hand on that crystal over there."

As Allen followed the instructions of the staff member and placed his hand on the crystal, letters appeared on the paper placed there.

The staff member looked at it and--

"L-level Cap 90!? And three skills!!"

They shouted loudly. The adventurers in the guild were surprised by the voice and looked at Allen.

"Your skills are [Advanced Swordsman], [Wind Attribute Magic], and [Attack Power Boost]!"

Allen's abilities were exactly as the male magician had described.

Next, Ellis registered as an adventurer.

Her level cap was 80 and her skills were [Provocation], [Defense Power Boost], and [Unstoppable].

The adventurers cheered at the unbelievable situation of having two people with Hero (Eiyuu) class abilities appear at once.

"Level cap 90 and level cap 80!? It's like a miraculous combination!"

"I've never seen someone at level cap 90 before! Were they chosen by a god or something!?"

"Those kids will definitely become amazing adventurers in the future!"

In the midst of the hustle and bustle, Allen and Ellis received their Adventurer Registration card and looked back against the wall.

The adventurers who had brought them to town were already gone.

After finishing the busy Adventurer Registration process and leaving the guild, the two of them walked along the main street and heard rumors about themselves everywhere.

While Allen seemed unaffected, Ellis was barely able to cling to him as they walked.

Becoming famous in town brought various benefits to Allen and the others.

When they entered a blacksmith's shop to look at equipment, they were given high-quality gear for free.

It was because if someone who was promised to become a Hero used the weapons they made, it would be the best advertisement for the shop.

The two of them were able to get the best equipment that matched their current abilities.

The two of them then got a room at an inn. The cost of meals and the inn were both free.

Ellis lay on a soft bed that felt different from what she was used to, and wondered if she might be dreaming. She thought about her future life and felt surprisingly calm and secure when she thought about being with Allen.

It was their first trip, and she was so tired that she fell asleep right away.

* * *

"I think I'll wait and see for a while."

The next morning at the inn's dining room, Allen said this to Ellis while munching on breakfast bread.

"What do you mean by 'wait and see'?"

"I mean about the party members. I'd prefer to have new recruits like us if possible."

"Why can't we join some other party?"

"...Well, I don't really like that idea. And, you know, I think it's easier for new recruits to get along without feeling awkward."

Ellis knew that Allen usually hesitated when he was concerned about her.

Allen wanted to tell Ellis that not everyone in the world is good, and that's why he wanted to team up with a rookie.

However, he chose his words carefully because he didn't want to make her anxious by saying it directly.

Ellis didn't understand why Allen said he wanted a rookie, but she thought he must have had a reason for it, so she didn't ask too many questions.

Allen didn't seem to have any weaknesses from the past, and he seemed to think about many more things than Ellis. So, she decided to trust him without getting in the way.

After leaving the inn, the two of them stood by the guild's wall and looked at the reception area again. This was Allen's idea.

After a while, amidst the adventurers reporting their completed quests and selling materials, newbies occasionally came and registered.

The two of them quietly listened to the results of the appraisals announced by the reception staff.

At about halfway through the day, 10 people visited the reception.

At this point, 10 people had visited the reception after about half a day.

From the Ability Appraisal, it was found that 8 people had a Level Cap between 20 and 30 and had one skill.

Out of these, 2 people had a maximum level of 40 and had two skills.

Ultimately, no one with a Level Cap comparable to Allen and his friends showed up.

"So, that makes ten people. It seems like there aren't any new adventurers with abilities similar to ours, at least."

"Our abilities are really that rare, huh..."

Allen decided to actually confirm whether they were truly rare and how much ability is common.

Based on the results, he was trying to decide how to gather party members in the future.

"Hey Allen, what are we going to do next?"

"Yeah, I have a pretty good idea now. Let's invite new adventurers similar to us and form a party."

"Huh? Oh, uh, okay... I understand..."

The man who brought the two of them here had said on the way, "An adventurer party won't function properly if the members' abilities don't balance out."

But then, Ellis wondered-- what about the people who joined our party?

Ellis still had questions, but as soon as life as an adventurer got busy, he never got a chance to ask Allen.

And so, Allen and Ellis began to gather party members.

They completed requests and steadily increased their level and reputation.
