Side Story - Side Fencer Ii, Part One
I── Mikage, have been serving as Yukina-sama's "servant" for some time. From Yukina-sama's perspective, I am just a "friend," and it's only my own assumption that I am considered a "servant." However, I hope to be officially recognized as part of his servants in the future.
Now, outwardly I am a friend, but inside I feel like a servant. In Yukina-sama's eyes, I hold the position of a leader, and I have started to follow him as a mercenary.
As a 2nd-ranked person, it seems strange to those around me that I, as a higher-ranked mercenary, follow Yukina-sama, who is lower-ranked. Although I am not aware of it, I have a feminine appearance, and due to my overly developed chest, it gets in the way when I move, attracting the attention of the opposite sex. It wasn't something worth worrying about at this point.
It was a part of my "woman" that was annoying and couldn't be helped, but now I'm starting to think that this version of myself isn't so bad.
Although we have only known each other for a short time, it seems that Yukina-sama prefers women with ample bosoms. I noticed that Yukina-sama's gaze occasionally fell on my chest.
When I showed signs that I had noticed, Yukina-sama quickly averted his gaze. In the past, I would have felt nothing but discomfort, but with Yukina-sama, I didn't feel bad at all.
Oops, I digress.
Regardless of our positions, I was allowed to accompany Yukina-sama on his work, and that day, I was by his side.
The task at hand was a typical job for a mercenary. It involved subduing a specific monster, removing the requested parts from its carcass, and bringing them back.
"Take this!"
With sharp determination, Yukina-sama brandishes his black spear. He slices through the bird-like monster that swoops down from the sky, and with the same momentum, he swings his spear and defeats the monster approaching from behind.
"Yukina-sama is truly amazing!"
As I dispose of the nearby monsters, I unconsciously let out words of admiration.
Although I excel mainly in using a katana, I can handle various weapons. Of course, I also have some knowledge about spears. That's why I deeply appreciate Yukina-sama's spear skills.
The greatest strength of a spear lies in its long reach and the powerful strike utilizing centrifugal force. It achieves its maximum power by attacking unilaterally without allowing the opponent to get close.
Yukina-sama seems to be well aware of this and fully utilizes the length of her spear. Without dampening his momentum, he constantly unleashes attacks with maximum power. While it may be an exaggeration to call him highly skilled, it seems like his movements become more refined with each swing of the spear.
Actually, I ended up going on the quest with Yukina-sama, but I didn't interfere in the fighting. Even if there was something that bothered me during the battle, I would try to mention it during the fight. It's as if I'm observing his movements objectively.
──Well, to be honest, it was more like always growing with someone's advice.
"Phew... I guess we've reached a stopping point for now."
The monsters nearby were all defeated. Yukina-sama and I didn't suffer any noticeable injuries, so it can be said that we had a complete victory.
"Mikage, are you alright over there?"
"Yes, everything is normal here."
I brushed off the bloodstains on my katana and sheathed it as I answered. It was true that Yukina-sama's words were right, but I was simply happy that Yukina-sama cared about me.
"Hey, you're hurt!"
"Huh?" Before I could even speak, Yukina-sama grabbed my arm. And then, I felt a slight pain.
I looked and saw a small cut on the middle of my arm. It seems that I was too distracted thinking while fighting.
"Oh, sorry."
"Why are you apologizing? I'm not mad or anything. I'm the one who should be thanking you for helping with the job."
Even though I was the one giving him guidance, it was embarrassing to get injured by such a weak monster. Yukina-sama laughed, but I couldn't help but feel ashamed and looked down.
"'Healing'"
When Yukina-sama uttered those words, I raised my head in surprise.
I looked and saw a faint light emanating from Yukina-sama's outstretched hand, pouring into the wound on my arm. Gradually, the wound started to close up and eventually disappeared without a trace.
"This is it, I did it."
"H-healing magic!?"
"I had tried it on myself a few times, but it was my first time using it on someone else. I was glad it worked."
Yukina-sama looked pleased with himself, but I couldn't help but be amazed.
Healing magic is a common type of magic, but it's considered difficult to learn. The Mercenary Guild has registered individuals who can use offensive magic, but there are very few who can use healing magic. If you're willing to risk your life for a job, becoming a doctor would be much more stable and lucrative.
Yukina-sama couldn't use magic when I first met him, at least that's what I thought. So, from the way he talked, it seemed like he had recently learned it.
──And it made my spine shivered with a chill.
I have been training as a martial artist since I was young, and I have many fellow martial artists who have trained and grown alongside me. As a result, I have witnessed many talents throughout my journey.
Based on that experience, it seems that Yukina-sama isn't the type to grow explosively all of a sudden. Some people give off a certain 'intimidating' vibe as soon as you meet them, even if they are inexperienced. And he has something that makes me expect great things from him in the future.
To be honest, Yukina-sama doesn't seem to have that kind of 'intimidating' talent. It's unlikely that he has the talent to learn quickly from just one experience.
However, on the other hand, it seems like he is slowly but steadily growing. Even though he may not have a flashy presence, he gives off the impression of building a strong and stable foundation.
Feeling the closeness of Yukina-sama's growth, I feel a strange sense of excitement. Just the thought that I could play a part in his growth makes me feel so excited.
Yukina was able to learn basic healing magic due to his own motivation and the guidance of his instructor.
