Volume 12 Chapter 4 Margaret's Declaration
"Hey, Rain Garland!"
One afternoon, I ran into Margaret.
We were near the entrance of a street where food stalls gathered.
Since I had some free time today, I planned to casually visit the food stalls.
"Hey there!"
"I heard a rumor. You're about to be recommended for the S-rank, right?"
"Uh, well, sort of..."
The idea of me becoming an S-rank adventurer doesn't really make sense to me.
In terms of rank, would I be on the same level as Lily...?
"I've fallen even further behind you..."
Margaret glared at me.
"If Iu want to earn the respect of senpai, the quickest way is to beat you... but, uh..."
"Lily probably already respects you enough, doesn't she? She allowed you to accompany her in the recent battle against the Light Dragon King."
"That's not enough. I want to be recognized more, like... I want to be seen as senpai's one and only partner."
Margaret was speaking with great passion.
"Wow, Margaret really admires Lily..."
"Well, of course! To me, she's the best knight and adventurer in the world."
I could see flames in Margaret's eyes.
"When I was struggling in another guild, I met her during a joint quest. She guided me to grow at my own pace and not rush. Thanks to her, my achievements started to increase little by little."
Margaret continued to speak.
"So, after I had built up enough achievements, I transferred to the same guild as her. They wouldn't let me in without a certain rank or achievements, you know, that guild."
"Oh, I see. They're strict, huh?"
I replied.
"Well, they are one of the strongest guilds on the continent. They can't just accept any adventurer."
"I see... 'Fang of the Beast King' was a bit more accepting of different adventurers, but I guess they have their own strictness too."
By the way, what's going on with 'Fang of the Beast King'?
I think I heard rumors that it's been tough since dropping from S-rank and losing members.
"I'm going to get stronger and definitely reach S-rank. I'll beat you someday."
Margaret pointed at me, and I replied,
"Do your best!"
I always feel like cheering on someone who's working hard.
"...When you tell me directly, it makes me feel a bit embarrassed. But, um, I'm saying I'll defeat you, are you going to cheer me on?"
"I want to cheer on people who are trying their best. Especially if they're my friends."
"Friends..."
Margaret seemed surprised and blushed.
"What, are that cold? We're friends, right?"
"I-I know... That's right."
Margaret blushed and muttered to herself, seeming embarrassed.
"...Not bad, huh? That's what I'm talking about."
A small smile appeared on her face.
