Volume 3 Chapter 14 It's A Savage Equipment, But...
"Haaaaaa!!"
As the goblins gathered, screaming strangely, I swung my spear with even greater determination. The sharp tip of my spear sliced through the bodies of several goblins, scattering blood and guts as their lives ended.
When I killed a goblin for the first time, I felt a slight aversion to their human-like appearance. But now, I don't have the luxury to think about such things.
Unlike beast-like monsters, goblins have some intelligence. That's why the direction of their hostility is clear. The goblins' murderous intent gathers towards me, who has been killing their comrades one after another.
It was a fortunate turn of events, but there was no joy in it.

"Oh no!"
Maybe it was a mistake to be thinking about something else.
I pierced multiple goblins who charged at me in a vertical line with my spear. To increase its power, I used a little "Enchantment - Weight Increase" on my black spear (Gram), making it sharper and heavier. The spear easily impaled the goblins without any resistance.
However, as sharp as the tip was, the handle was just a mere "grip." The goblin's body got stuck, preventing the spear from coming out.
I hurriedly tried to pull the spear out of the goblin's corpse, but before I could, the goblin swung a rusty sword and attacked.
'Partner, use the one on your waist!'
Before I was even told, I had already reached out my hand to grab it.
The goblin swung its sword high, as if considering whether or not to use it.
I struck its arm halfway with the big hatchet I pulled out from my waist sheath.
The goblin screamed as its arm was severed, and I smashed its skull with another swing of the hatchet.
The contents of its head scattered, making me feel incredibly disgusted.
'Partner, don't just stand there! They're still coming!!'
Motivated by Gram's scolding, I regained my dwindling spirit and returned the hatchet to my waist sheath. I forcefully pulled out the spear, which was stuck in the goblin's impaled body, by hooking my foot on the corpse.
Although I acquired the big hatchet for use in tight spaces, it seems to be more than sufficient as a backup when the spear is temporarily unusable, just like now. It is thick and large, so it is sturdy enough to be used with brute force without any problems. This was a good purchase.
'It does feel like I'm equipped like a barbarian or something!'
Don't say that. I'm aware of it too, you know.
Weapons just need to be strong and sharp, easy to use. Looks and reputation are just byproducts. It's like thinking similar to bandits or barbarians.
'I like your way of thinking though, partner.'
Yeah, yeah, thanks.
While we're at it, goblins keep coming out one after another. I still have some energy left, but I'm feeling down.
Suddenly, I look towards Mikage.
"──────......"
Unlike me, Mikage effortlessly slices through the goblins with a flowing motion, not resisting the goblin's flow like a river, but moving gracefully like a boat, untouched.
'You don't need to worry about that side. Just focus on what's in front of you, partner.'
If by any chance something happens to Mikage, Gram should warn me. I face the constantly approaching goblins, just as I was told.
However, whether it's dealing with kobolds or goblin nests, I feel like I have a knack for handling large numbers of suddenly appearing monsters. Well, in the past, it was more like I got involved on my own this time.
──After that, how many of them have I been facing?
While feeling a vague sense of time distortion, I continue swinging my spear and hatchet.
"Seriously, how many are there!?"
I couldn't help but scream. The pace is clearly higher than when I defeated kobolds during the Monster Rampage (Stampede). If it were the old me, I would already be out of breath, but now I still have some room to spare.
However, I was still exhausted to the point where I couldn't be optimistic.
'Mikage is also switching to a strategy of conserving energy in battle.'
At first, Mikage was attacking bravely, but now it's more of a defensive approach. She still cuts down the nearby goblins, but she no longer charges into the middle of the group.
'Partner, I have good news and even better news.'
That's a pretty ominous way of saying it, huh?
"...Let's start with the good news."
'First, the number of goblins has decreased. The goblins that were scattered around nearby have all gathered here.'
I was so focused on defeating the goblins that I didn't notice until I calmed down and looked around. The goblins that were once densely packed have started to dwindle.
So, if we defeat all the ones in front of us, it'll be over. When you can see a clear end, it gives you a surge of energy.
"So, what's the better news?"
'The "boss" who is leading the goblins is approaching.'

"Hey, isn't that bad news!?"
It means a strong enemy is coming! It's definitely bad news without even thinking about it!!
'If we can defeat the boss, all that will be left is a disorganized group. It will be much easier than wiping them all out in the current situation.'

What the heck is this 'boss'!
'It's like the Monster Rampage (Stampede). Even though they are the same species, it's not normal for such a large group of monsters to gather in one place. In cases like this, there is always a "boss" who leads the herd.'
In other words, just like the Kobold King who led the Kobolds, there must be something like a Goblin King in this large group of goblins.

So, what exactly is this "boss" thing, huh?
Before I could even ask Gram, Mikage let out a scream.
"Yukina-sama! Look at that!!"
Mikage came running towards me, cutting down goblins, and looked intensely towards the back of the group.
Following Mikage's lead, I turned my gaze in that direction and saw something even bigger than the goblins── bigger than humans── approaching us.
