Volume 10 Chapter 31 Investigation To Kirschtein With Mr. Lucian
Mr. Lucian explained the situation to Mr. Noctis and submitted a vacation request, getting a few days off.
"I'm sorry for making you take a break."
"Don't worry about it. Even so, I've been working hard every day, so taking a break now and then is no big deal."
"That's right, you don't have to worry about it, Ms. Lydia. Go on a nice trip with the captain."
"Trip?"
"Yeah. The captain is going on a trip with Ms. Lydia. I'm happy. It feels like the captain's long-standing feelings have finally reached Ms. Lydia."
"Long-standing?"
I shifted my gaze from the smiling Mr. Noctis to Mr. Lucian.
After giving a vague smile, Mr. Lucian prompted me, saying, "Well then, shall we go?"
"Mr. Lucian, long-standing?"
"It's easier to understand if I say we're going on a trip rather than an investigation. Sorry, Lydia."
"There's nothing to apologize for, but if we're talking about a trip, it does sound exciting! But, long-standing..."
"That's... something to discuss later."
With that, Mr. Lucian stepped out into the spacious training ground at the Leonsroar headquarters.
He took off his necklace and threw it, transforming it into the floating Magic Stone device, Fafnir.
"Lydia, make sure the animals don't fall off."
"Are you going to let us ride?"
"Of course. It's meant for one person, but it shouldn't be a problem for you and the animals to ride together."
"Hehe, I'm happy."
I had ridden it once before, but at that time, Mr. Lucian was troubled and not in high spirits, and I wasn't really in a good place either.
Mr. Lucian gently patted my head, feeling like an older brother.
"Kyururu."
As I reached out to everyone to join me, Mer-Mer, who was carrying everyone on its back, let out a strange sound.
"...It says it won't ride, it's okay."
Mr. Lucian interpret for me.
Meruru trembled their body next to Fafnir.
Eir-Eir and the others are taking refuge in my arms from Mer-Mer's back.
The trembling Mer-Mer has grown even bigger than a large dog.
With big wings sprouting from their back, they transform into a small dragon that shines beautifully.
"Mer-Mer, so cute...!"
"Kyuu~."
I hugged Mer-Mer's now larger neck tightly and nuzzled against them.
Mer-Mer is fluffy and cool. Fluffy, shiny, and cool.
Eir-Eir, Ms. Famine, and Dad easily climbed onto their back, and I lifted Med and Nel-Nel, helping them get on.
"But, um, everyone, are you okay? Flying in the sky with just Mer-Mer and everyone else might be risky; the wind could blow us away, and I'm worried..."
"Kyuu, kyuu."
"They said, 'It seems I still need more magic power to grow a bit bigger.'"
"Lydia, it's fine. I'm here. I may be a cute puppy, but I'm your dad. I can at least create a protective barrier so we won't get blown away."
"Dad..."
"Pumpkin pudding!"
"Tarte Tatin."
"Fried horse mackerel."
"Shiratama anmitsu."
"When everyone talks at once, it gets noisy in my head... but they're all saying it's okay!"
Even though Dad and everyone seemed really worried, if they say it's okay, then it probably is.
I guess being too overprotective isn't good either.
I remember Father Feldur.
I like my father, but when he keeps saying "Lyd-Lyd, Lyd-Lyd" and insists on "Let's sleep together!" or "I'll hold you!" it gets a bit overwhelming.
"Well then, Dad, please take care of everyone."
"Ah. Lydia, you be careful too."
"Yes! But it's okay because Mr. Lucian is here."
"Be careful of Lucian."
"Mr. Lucian?"
"Why am I being treated like a dangerous person?"
Mr. Lucian sighed deeply, as if he couldn't understand.
Then he took my hand and helped me onto Fafnir.
Fafnir, shaped like a slender black dragon, and the sparkling little dragon Mer-Mer took off from the training ground.
Before I knew it, Mr. Noctis and everyone from Leonsroar had come to see us off, waving as we flew away.
I waved back while saying, "I'm off!"
Mr. Lucian was holding my waist, probably to make sure I wouldn't fall.
The Holy Capital was getting smaller and smaller, and the sky felt closer.
As I looked at the distant Holy Capital, I remembered everyone who had seen us off, saying "Take care," and it made me feel a bit lonely.
Even though I thought I would be back soon, it was a little strange to feel that way.
