Volume 10 Chapter 40 The Last Greeting

Volume 10 Chapter 40 The Last Greeting

In front of the Great Temple, my father and mother, along with the priests, are giving evacuation orders to the townspeople to enter the Temple.

Creepy-looking monsters are gnawing at the barrier, which resembles a membrane of water covering the Holy Capital.

There are creatures that look like insects and others that resemble animals.

Some have wings, while others have shapes that seem like parts of a human body.

Various monsters are clinging tightly to the barrier.

They are as dark as ants swarming over a dropped candy, and above these dark monsters, a sinister red moon floats in the sky.

The sky is dark and stained red.

It's not the red of a sunset, but a much darker, blood-like red.

From the enormous red moon, which is so large it could cover the Holy Capital, a gigantic female hand stretches out like a ladder connecting the sky to the ground.

With twisted, pointed claws, the skin looks rotten in places.

As those arms swing down, cracks begin to form in the barrier protecting the Holy Capital.

With each swing of the arms, the ground shakes, making it hard to stand.

Mr. Lucian supports me as I almost fall, and Sir Ciel casts a barrier over us.

The barrier seems to lift our feet slightly off the ground, protecting us from the violent tremors.

Due to the shaking, some buildings are collapsing.

Healers are using magic to treat people who have fallen or been injured by the crumbling buildings.

Among them is FraFra, who rushes over to us, almost tripping as she notices us.

 "Elder Sister!"

 "FraFra!"

"Something terrifying suddenly appeared in the sky...! Is that a Witch...?"

 "...Yeah, probably."

Even though Sylphina should be sealed within the red moon, I don't understand why she's falling.

But── the barrier that has long protected the Holy Capital from monsters is on the verge of breaking.

"Elder Sister... what should we do? If this continues, everyone...!"

"Don't worry, FraFra. Please continue to heal those who are injured. It's really admirable."

"What about you, Elder Sister? You have to escape too...! It's dangerous to stay here!"

"I'm fine. I'm a Saint, so I'm here for times like this."

"Just because you're a Saint doesn't mean it's right to go to a dangerous place. Let's escape together!"

FraFra hugged me and shook her head like a child throwing a tantrum.

 She must be anxious.

 Of course, she is.

The scene unfolding above us seems like something beyond human power to handle.

It was that powerful, eerie, overwhelming, and even──divine.

"FraFra, it's okay. Because I have everyone with me! I will protect everyone, and then, I will save the Witch... from that lonely place."

When I looked back at Sir Ciel, Mr. Lucian, Eir-Eir and the others perched on my shoulders and head, they all nodded strongly.

 "Elder Sister..."

 "Lyd-Lyd!"

 "Lydia!"

 "Father, Mother!"

Father and Mother also rushed over to me.

"The priests at the Temple are setting up barriers. But it's impossible to evacuate all the people in the Holy Capital. The Saintwise barrier is probably at its limit. Soon, a horde of monsters will come crashing down."

"Lydia... you're going to fight, aren't you?"

"Yes. Please take care of the people in the town, both Mother and Father. I'm going to the moon. I promise I'll come back, so please wait for me."

FraFra let go of me, and instead, Father and Mother hugged me tightly.

"Sir Feldur, Lady Tiansa, we will definitely protect Ms. Lydia."

"Even if it costs this life, we will."

Sir Ciel and Mr. Lucian said to my father, and he replied,

"Both of you, I'm leaving my daughter in your hands. Just to be clear, this doesn't mean I'm giving her away as a bride. Don't get the wrong idea."

He was then chided by my mother, who said,"This isn't the time for that, Sir Fer".

"Please evacuate as many people as possible to the Great Temple. We'll place the mages from Saintwise at each shelter. Even if the barrier around the town is broken, we'll set up a new barrier to prevent monsters from entering the shelters."

As Sir Ciel said this, Mr. Leavis and several mages from Saintwise appeared in a group through teleportation.

"Sir Ciel, there's a crack in the large Magic Stone that maintains the barrier of the Holy Capital. It can't hold much longer. Ah, Ms. Lydia, hello."

 "Mr. Leavis, hello."

Mr. Leavis, who is usually calm, looked a bit flustered as he said this, and when he noticed me, he greeted me with a smile.

I returned the greeting with a smile too, but it wasn't the time for that, so I tightened my expression.

"Leavis, set up barriers at the shelters. Use my Magic Stone. I'll take care of everything while the barrier holds."

 "Understood, Sir Ciel."

As Sir Ciel raised his hand, a beautiful red gem fell from his palm onto Mr. Leavis's hand.

Mr. Leavis distributed it to his subordinates while saying,

"Take care, Sir Ciel. And you too, Ms. Lydia, and Lord Lucian".

"The knights of Leonsroar are positioned in case the barrier is broken. His Majesty and Sir Roxas are at the royal palace. We'll probably be too busy just maintaining the barrier. ...If this disturbance is happening not just in the Holy Capital but in various places──then the damage will be immense."

"Ah, I got it. Thanks for telling me, Leavis. Let's head to His Majesty, Ciel."

"Right. Leavis, I've asked you to take care of the people in the town."

"Thank you, Sir Ciel. Please, good luck to you."

After seeing Mr. Leavis, my father and mother, and FraFra guide everyone to the Great Temple, we headed toward the palace.

Meanwhile, the barrier began to warp, the entire town was shaking, and the screams of the townspeople and the cries of the children echoed throughout the town.
