Volume 10 Chapter 7 Mr. Lucian's Special Skill

Volume 10 Chapter 7 Mr. Lucian's Special Skill

I have to save Sylphina, who is trapped under the red moon.

It's not just because it's the wish of Goddess Alexandria.

"Sylphina is the mother of Eir-Eir and the others. She's been through so much pain... If she's been locked away for a long time, dreaming only sad dreams, that would be really heartbreaking. If I can do something about it, I want to set her free."

"Lydia. While it is Alexandria's wish, you have the right to refuse."

"Dad trusted me... trusted us enough to tell us this, right? I want to help too. ...So...!"

I raised my voice a bit.

I want to help Sylphina. But maybe I'm the only one who feels this way.

Still, I know I can't do anything alone. I never could.

I'm not that strong. I can't just push through by myself.

 So──

"I... I don't know how to get to the moon, or how to save Sylphina... but can you help me...?"

"Of course, Lydia. I'll do anything you ask. If you want to go, I'll be with you, even if it's the end of the world."

 Sir Stefan nodded firmly.

"Defeating the moon witch... or rather, freeing her. As a hero, that sounds really exciting. Princess, I'll always be by your side. No matter what happens."

Sir Rail said with sparkling eyes, clearly enjoying the idea.

 "...It's your request. I can't refuse."

"Sir Roxas, if you don't want to, you don't have to push yourself..."

"I'm not pushing myself...! Being relied on isn't so bad. I'm going too."

Sir Roxas said a bit flustered.

"Lydia. My sword, my heart, everything is yours. Use it however you like."

Sir Lucian said in a sweet, gentle voice.

"I feel the same way. I will give you all of me. I exist to fulfill your wishes and to protect you."

Sir Ciel said in a calm and cool voice, smiling.

Eir-Eir and the others jumped from my lap to the table, bouncing around while saying, "Pumpkin pudding! Tarte Tatin! Fried horse mackerel!"

"Thank you so much...! I'm always... being helped."

"Lydia is cuter than me, so it's only natural to want to help her. ...Just kidding."

 Dad continued.

"If my memory serves me right, some Kirschtein people had the power to summon monsters. Sylphina creating monsters is probably part of that power."

"In my memories, some Kirschtein people can control monsters, but... summoning them is different."

"Saintwise can use summoning magic. This involves gathering magical power to create a phantom that is as close to the real thing as possible. Is summoning the same as that?"

Mr. Lucian tilted his head, and Sir Ciel confirmed.

"Yeah, it's similar. But summoning a monster isn't just creating a phantom. It's more like a being with its own will, shaped by magical power. The Kirschtein people controlled them as familiars and ruled the land for a long time. ...They can communicate with the monsters they create. In other words, they can have conversations."

 "...Huh?"

At Dad's explanation, everyone turned their gaze to Mr. Lucian all at once.

Mr. Lucian's eyes widened in surprise for a moment.

"So, Lucian can... talk to the Fairy dragon, huh?"

"I've been curious about this for a while, but is it really a Fairy dragon?"

Pointing to the cute animal wrapped around Sir Ciel's neck, Mr. Lucian frowned suspiciously.

"The dragon I saw in Edelstein was similar to the Fairy dragon you defeated in the Kingdom before. But how is it that it's with you now, Ciel?"

"Ah, that... once, when I defeated the Fairy dragon, I felt pity for it. To me, the Fairy dragon looked like a lost child who had wandered into this world. At that time, I thought of myself as a monster too, so it hit me even harder."

Sir Ciel said this as if it was nothing special.

He always seemed a bit troubled when talking about himself, but now he spoke in a calm tone, like he was just stating a fact from the past.

"I didn't kill it; I showed mercy and buried a piece of my jewel in the dying dragon. I thought maybe it could survive. ...This little one seems to have followed my presence and chased after me. I tried to kill it, but it seems to think of me as its benefactor."

"Does it not have a name?"

"A name for a Fairy dragon?"

"Yeah. I thought it might be inconvenient without a name..."

"Who knows? Ms. Eiris introduced herself. So, maybe they actually have names..."

"Lucian, you can probably talk to round rice cakes, cat-like creatures, mirror rice cakes, and shape-shifting foxes, huh?"

"Sir Roxas, that's why people don't like you."

Round rice cakes. Cat-like creatures. Mirror rice cakes. Shape-shifting foxes.

They're cute, but they could just be called by names. Sir Roxas is being intimidated by Eir-Eir and the others.

"Roxas is shy, you know... he gets embarrassed when he calls cute animals by cute names."

"No, I just haven't forgotten that these guys are monsters, even if they try to look cute."

Sir Roxas sulked and denied it when Sir Rail gently chided him.

Sure, Eir-Eir and the others might have done terrible things, but they're like babies who don't remember anything, so it's pointless to be angry.

"Wait a minute. I feel like the conversation is heading towards me being able to hear the voices of monsters..."

"That's the direction it's going. Lucian, you're amazing. You can hear the voices of monsters."

"Your Majesty, when I'm praised so purely, it's a bit... well, I don't have the ability to talk to monsters right now."

After being complimented by Sir Stefan, Mr. Lucian furrowed his brows, looking troubled.

"That's probably just because Lucian isn't trying to listen. You're a royal of Kirschtein. You should have the same power as Sylphina."

Maybe it was because they heard dad's explanation, but Eir-Eir and Nel-Nel started shouting at Mr. Lucian, "Pumpkin pudding, pumpkin, pumpkin, pudding! Fried horse mackerel... fried horse mackerel..."

"Calm down, you two. Do you have that much to say?"

 "Pumpkin!"

 "Fried horse mackerel!"

"This is tough... I never even thought about being able to talk to monsters."

"Mr. Lucian... that sounds nice. I want to talk with Eir-Eir and the others too."

"I see... then you should stay by my side. I'll translate the words of Eiris for Lydia."

"Is that okay? I'm so happy!"

"You probably still don't understand what they're saying, Lucian. Don't get ahead of yourself. And don't accept it, Lydia."

 Sir Roxas said irritably.

"...I feel like I can manage since I'm kind of like a monster too."

 "Don't compete, Ciel."

Sir Roxas glared at Sir Ciel, who was starting to think seriously about something, with half-open eyes.

Sir Rail, resting his chin on his hand, smiled at Sir Roxas, saying, "You're busy, huh, Roxas?"
