Volume 6 Chapter 52 Transparent Guardian Membrane
In the plains, many Gem's People, teleported here by Sir Ciel's magic, are huddled together.
Sir Filouz looks up at Edelstein, wrapped in a shimmering, thin membrane, with a dazed expression on his face.
Sir Galeon and the soldiers who were thrown out of the town also wear similar expressions, just watching as the transparent membrane around the town glows red and fiercely.
"Princess!"
A mountain of soldiers lies collapsed, stacked on top of each other.
Sir Rail, standing proudly on top of the fallen soldiers, notices us and jumps down effortlessly from the pile.
"Sorry, I got caught up with Clifford and the other soldiers, and then Wisteria's airship showed up. I thought it would be fine with Lucian around, but what happened?"
"Sir Rail, Sir Ciel...!"
"Ciel?"
"Sir Ciel stayed back in the town... There are a lot of Magic Stones in Edelstein, and they might explode... If that happens, the people and animals of the country will all die..."
I said this with a trembling voice as Sir Rail rushed over.
Elder Brother Chrisrain, Sir Roxas, and Sir Marx also came to our side.
In the plains, large holes and cracks in the ground, likely created by Sir Roxas's magic, are blocking the cavalry, and the remains of Elder Brother Chrisrain's giant beanstalk are still burning.
"Ciel is planning to stop it alone, huh?"
"Yes... I have to go back to the town!"
"Lydia. All we can do is trust Ciel and wait here. An incredible amount of magical power is about to be released. Ciel must have stayed behind, thinking he could stop it himself."
Sir Stefan quietly gazed at the town.
"But...!"
It was a beautiful, jewel-like town.
The sparkling gems──Magic Stones──began to glow fiercely in a deep, ominous red.
Mr. Lucian wrapped his arms around me, shielding me as I reached out toward the town.
He held me tightly in his strong arms, and I couldn't move. My tears slowly soaked into Mr. Lucian's military uniform.
"Mr. Lucian, let me go..."
"...I feel the same helplessness as you do."
"Ha, ha... what a foolish man! To easily offer up his life to protect something. Just like the father of those Gem's People. He willingly shattered his own body to protect Bianca and the child in her womb...!"
"Safiro..."
Even though the town was glowing red.
Sir Galeon let out a laugh, while Sir Filouz glared at him with eyes full of hatred.
"Sir Galeon!"
"Clifford, it's pathetic to fall behind just because of 3 people. Don't tarnish the name of Wisteria! Just right, all the hidden Gem's People are here. Kill them all, without exception!"
As Clifford rushed toward Sir Galeon, he gave that order.
Even though Sir Ciel might die. Even though this country might perish.
Why is he still saying such things?
"Sir Galeon... I'm sorry."
"Enough! Clifford, if you are to inherit the name of Wisteria, think for yourself. What is happening now. What actions we should take!"
Sir Roxas scolded Clifford, who hung his head, sword in hand.
"Wake up. And engrave this in your eyes. The consequences of your actions. If Ciel can't handle the magic power, the Magic Stone's strength will burn the land, and not just Wisteria, but the Kingdom too, and even Kirschtein might be wiped out."
"This is all the fault of the Gem's People! The Gem's People are the root of all evil! Kill them, every last one! Let the Gem's People... and the Kirschtein people die... let them all die...!"
Instead of the hesitant Mr. Clifford, Sir Galeon raised his voice.
"Stop throwing a childish tantrum. Galeon, your argument is like saying you hate tomatoes, so you want to wipe them off the face of the earth. If there's a food you really dislike, you just choose not to eat it. That's all you have to do, but you can't even manage that."
Elder Brother Chrisrain sighed deeply.
I don't have any foods I dislike, but everyone has their preferences.
For example, some people don't like fatty meat, or shiitake mushrooms, or bell peppers. Some people hate sweets, while others can't stand spicy food.
But that doesn't mean they hate those dishes or vegetables. They just don't eat what they dislike. That's all.
"What do you know! The Kirschtein people took my wife's life, and the Gem's People took my daughter!"
"It was you, Lord Galeon, who let Lady Bianca die. Ciel must have watched her mother weaken, unable to do anything, in the same room as the dying Lady Bianca. Even when she begged for your help, you turned a deaf ear."
"Who told you such shameful things about my family? Is Ciel spreading rumors?"
"No. My father said he heard it from Ciel just once. Ciel said he was the one who killed his mother. Even young Ciel felt her mother's death was his own fault. Yet you keep blaming someone else for it."
Sir Stefan said in a clear voice, Sir Galeon.
He wasn't shouting in anger or glaring. He was just quietly stating the facts.
I was watching the shining Edelstein from Mr. Lucian's arms.
That shine was getting stronger and stronger, as if it would cover the whole world.
Red was overflowing inside a transparent protective layer.
Boom...! A low, intense roar pierced my ears, and the ground shook violently.
"Sir Ciel..."
The torrent of magic, the explosion, was being held back by the transparent barrier.
All I could do was pray for his safety.
