Volume 4 Chapter 28 Even That God, Was Exiled?
Ms. Llama took me to a big hall.
The walls were covered with pictures carved all around.
They looked very old, but even I, who don't know much about art, could tell the artist was amazing.
"Wow, this is incredible. Are these pictures about the age of gods?"
"You understand it?"
"Yeah, that's God Abnella over there, and those gods in front of her are the new gods. It looks like they're sealing Abnella."
Miloslaf seemed to understand what the pictures showed just by a quick look.
So this hall explains the stories from the age of gods.
I looked left and saw a picture of a god who looked like Abnella protecting someone from someone else.
I got curious and asked Ms. Llama.
"Ms. Llama, what is that picture about?"
Following my finger, Ms. Llama, with sleepy calm eyes, said a relaxed "Ahhh~."
Honestly, her calm voice made me feel relaxed and sleepy too.
'That shows God Abnella protecting Elmusca, the god of mercy, who was banished by the old gods. In that battle, the old gods were destroyed.'
"...Elmusca..."
That name felt familiar.
I instinctively touched the magic stone on my waist.
Of course, that was the mysterious 'gift'──the Magic Stone of Elmusca, named after that god.
"Why was that god banished?"
'Elmusca was giving power to the people, but the old gods could not accept that. They had a cruel plan to banish him to the lower world as someone useless. And from the new gods, he was sealed away with Abnella.'
"...it's like..."
Isn't that just like me?
It might be a bit different, but being banished for giving others abilities is exactly the path I walked.
They say Elmusca is the god of love, but he is probably the god of Enchant magic.
Now I am a Count, but the power of Enchant magic is invisible, unlike regular magic, so it has always been looked down upon through the ages.
"So, it's the same for gods and humans..."
"Huh?"
"No, it's nothing."
Miloslaf, who caught my mumbling, looked puzzled, but I shook my head and decided to change the subject.
I need to investigate the faith of Abnella now.
"By the way, I heard that the Quechua Empire destroyed the Sakura Empire across the western sea. They say they are followers of a god who loves peace, so why did they invade?"
'The Sakura Empire, huh? I don't know much, but I've heard that there has been a long civil war in that country. So, thinking of the people there, the Emperor might have raised an army.'
"...I see, I understand well. Thank you."
Ah, so that's it.
In this country's mindset, there is a belief that to achieve peace, sometimes you must solve things with power.
They finish one battle to lay the foundation for a peaceful land.
Ms. Llama in front of me accepts this idea calmly.
It's an extreme idea, but I can't completely deny it.
I mean, I also use force when talking things out doesn't work.
"This is tough."
"I get what you're thinking, but yeah, that's right. It's not all pretty words."
Miloslaf seems to accept this idea like it's normal, so it must be a usual way of thinking in Gualerto.
Plus, as long as we keep trading with Quechua, if Beistein causes unrest, they might face military intervention, just like Sakura.
So, we must stop Gualerto's scheme for sure.
* * *
After hearing various talks, I walked out of the realm of the gods and headed towards the front entrance of the Church, where I noticed some people chatting at the entrance.
I wonder if something happened.
'I'll go ask if something's up!'
Saying that, Ms. Llama went towards the crowd.
I could faintly hear the voices from afar, and although they were within the range of the Magic Stone of Cashunat, I couldn't catch what they were saying.
"What are we going to do now?"
"...It's about what happens after we get back."
I understand what Miloslaf means.
Even knowing that Abnella was an absolute victim, he's wondering if they can clear this misunderstanding when we return.
If I start spreading that "It's the new god's fault. Abnella is the victim," I'd probably end up facing Sigmund's inquisition.
I need to think of a better plan.
"Well, it's impossible to change people's minds overnight. We'll have to take it slow. But I also worry that if a civil war breaks out, it could turn out like what happened with Sakura."
"Yeah, that's definitely possible."
It's just as I thought, huh?
The Quechua Empire's thinking is pretty extreme: "We'll conquer and manage it ourselves to keep the peace."
The Sakura Empire is bound to suffer because of this, and the Beistein Kingdom is unlikely to be spared either.
'Sorry to keep you waiting. Word is, a 'Tihuacan' has shown up in town~'
"...'Tihuacan'?"
Ms. Llama returned, as relaxed as ever, spouting words we couldn't understand.
I guess this person stays the same no matter what situation they're in.
'Well, the 'Tihuacan' is a tiger-like monster~. It sometimes appears at dusk near the town, but this time it seems to have actually gotten inside the town~'
"...A tiger?"
I parrot back without thinking.
I've seen a tiger before while walking in the mountains of the Tou Empire, and I remember it being quite imposing.
So, this monster has gotten into the town?
'Is that so?'
"Ah, yeah."
I'm thrown off balance, but Ms. Llama lets out a small sigh and answers in her usual relaxed manner.
'I can't see grandpa. He's probably not just out and about, is he~'
...This is a big deal.
