Volume 4 Chapter 5 The Headmaster Grandpa with Super Light Footwork and Super Close Distance

 "...Mister Horace. How was it?"

"Ah, haha... amazing. Kids are something else."

 Velto Luetheria.

The headmaster of Sevenstar Academy and former head of the Luetheria Margrave family.

 A 72-year-old grandfather.

He always wears a gentle smile, a calm, composed man with sharp information-gathering skills and flexible thinking. He loves his country and people, a wise old man.

The Luetheria family is the top clan in the Dragonstone Kingdom for earth-based magic and its use, and Velto served as a Margrave, responsible for defending the southern region of the kingdom.

He has since retired, and his son now holds the title.

While his physical strength has faded, Velto's experience and "tricks" remain sharp. Even in retirement, he still has great power.

 "You're still going strong."

"Well, to be honest, I've taken care of kids before, but I've never seen a group this full of energy."

"The hero community has its fair share of young ones, but you, Mister Horace, were rescued yourself. Considering how you were when you were saved, it's hard to call it 'energetic'. Compared to that, these kids here are really lively."

"I've seen schools in the Diamante Kingdom, but they weren't exactly bursting with energy. Is there some secret to all this energy?"

"What adults can do is simple. Don't take things for granted."

 "'Don't take things for granted'...?"

"Exactly. Every child is different. They have different abilities and limits. But when adults think it's all 'obvious,' it becomes a 'condition' that can restrict both them and the kids."

 "It becomes a limitation."

"Right. Children have their own drive and potential. If adults put unnecessary restraints on them, they lose their freedom. They can't stay energized."

"So, it's about respecting their will?"

"Not exactly. It's better for them to experience as much knowledge and failure as possible while they're still absorbing everything. It'll all help them in the end."

"Eventually, it'll come in handy... Well, I can understand that."

The technology that Horace is training, known as Golem Master, is something like a blend of 'earth magic', 'Magic Item Crafting', and 'alchemy'.

However, each of these 3 fields remains broad in scope.

After all, 'insight' is a bit like 'combining words you don't usually put together'. It's better to have a wide range of knowledge and just let it spin around in your head.

Humans can sometimes accomplish things by 'intuition', but to make 'intuition' acceptable, you ultimately need 'vocabulary'.

Children have quite the ability to absorb knowledge, and it's generally a good idea to cram as much as possible into them, depending on the society.

"Well, 90 percent of it will be wasted, though."

 "Right?"

"Still, I'm fine with that. You understand when you reach my age. About 90 percent of my life is spent doing useless things anyway. But if it turns out to be a waste, it's better to be able to laugh about it being bad luck. It's refreshing to watch."

 "I'd say that's clean living."

 "That's right."

Velto looked at Horace with a gentle smile.

"Just stay positive. Look at the half glass left as 'half full', not 'half empty'. That's the way to be."

 "Right?"

"Well, kids, if given the choice between an A-cup and an E-cup, they'll go for the E. But they probably won't settle for a C."

 "What are you talking about!?"

"It's good to be so meaningless that you don't even get it. That's how you should approach kids."

"Isn't that taking the fooling a bit too far?"

"It's not about fooling them, it's about being a fool. And not being ashamed to be one. That's what it's about."

 "..."

What one is ashamed of. What one finds embarrassing.

These things can vary greatly depending on the nationality, but somehow, it all seems quite vague.

"Anyway, the key point here is that, under this country's laws, sexual relations between teachers and students are prohibited. So Mister Horace won't be attacked by those kids."

"That's the most reckless use of the word 'summary' I've ever seen! Don't people tell you that you're hard to understand, Headmaster?"

"Peace is a good thing, isn't it?"

"Well, it's definitely peaceful, I'll give you that!"

Horace was starting to get reckless.

Though, maybe that kind of recklessness—that approach, that attitude—is what matters at this school... or maybe not. Who knows?

At the very least, the Headmaster himself is incredibly vague!

"...I think I'm starting to get the hang of how things work here."

"Glad to hear it. Make the most of these two months. Enjoy yourself."

With that, Velto turned his back on Horace.

"Oh, and... lately, we've had issues with foreign exchange students getting too full of themselves. But I'll take full responsibility, so Mister Horace, feel free to do as you please. Farewell."

 And with that, Velto left.
