Volume 23 Chapter 13-2 Rescue Continuation

 "Well done."

 "You too."

Reginald and Orson exchanged a few words and smiled in a clever, knowing way.

Al decided they were handling things just fine without any magical help, so he quietly slipped past them while they were busy fighting. He headed for a different door, not the one with iron bars.

When he opened the door, he saw a chair, a table, and a set of keys hanging on the wall.

 "I knew it!"

Just like Guildmaster Levy had guessed, this was probably a guard post or a place where keys were kept.

Al quickly grabbed the keys and threw them to a familiar mercenary from the Levy merchant guild, who was trying to unlock the door from the inside.

 "Al! Thanks!"

The man caught the keys and tried the first one in the keyhole, but it didn't work. When he tried the second one, there was a click, and the door opened. Mercenaries from the Levy merchant guild rushed out from inside.

They attacked the man who had been fighting Reginald and Orson from behind.

From that point on, the battle completely turned in their favor. Since Brook had already surrendered, the remaining mercenaries and the servants working at the mansion gave up without much of a fight.

The guards on top of the stone walls had been defeated by Brenda a long time ago.

"Reginald, Brenda, good work. Al, Orson, thank you. This reward will surely..."

Guildmaster Levy, who had been rescued from the confinement room, bowed deeply while being supported by other servants, showing his gratitude.

"You've been through a terrible time. Are you alright? You say 'thanks,' but Guildmaster Levy, you're a victim just like me..."

It was clear that the Levy merchant guild's main store and the one in the capital had been taken over, leaving only Parker's branch, which had opened about a year ago.

While he had received many rewards in the past, this time he felt bad about accepting them. More than that, he wondered if there was any way to get the spellbook that man named Cole had.

"That's right. Depending on the situation, I will speak to His Highness the Prince Theodore on your behalf. But more importantly, Guildmaster Levy, could you tell me what exactly happened?"

As Al was lost in thought, a middle-aged man called out to him. The man was clearly dressed as a noble, but his clothes were quite dirty, and he had a strange smell.

Behind him were about 20 men, who looked like nobles or knights, but Al didn't recognize them.

 "Your Excellency Viscount Morgan."

Guildmaster Levy, looking flustered, turned towards the man and knelt down right away, lowering his head. The people behind Viscount Morgan were likely the ones who had been captured with him.

Al, Reginald, and Brenda all knelt down and bowed their heads at the same time.

"I thought I was arrested for a crime I knew nothing about, and then moved here. The room was put together in a hurry, and the furniture was not good—it was terrible treatment. It's not wrong to ask a few questions."

In response to Viscount Morgan's question, Guildmaster Levy hesitated and shook his head.

"I also have been captured, and I don't have much information. It's too serious to talk about without knowing more, and I can't say anything until I confirm things a bit more..."

"Don't say that. I know Eugene is up to something. His father was an ambitious man. The reason the Margrave died wasn't because of illness, but because Eugene poisoned him, right? And the reason we were detained was to stop us from moving around, being so close to the kingdom's mainland, and during that time, Eugene tried to make Stroud a puppet leader, isn't it?"
