Volume 5 Chapter 39 Into Oboroas
Skyscraper Dragon Oboroas.
This is where the Order of the Sealed Dragon is based. Warriors here protect humans from demi-human attacks.
Horace walked in boldly with Nousa, Ginji, and Artia.
When they looked inside, they saw...
"I'm so sorry, Mr. Horace! I've caught these troublemakers. Please forgive us!"
"Never seen you old guy bow so low before."
"Ginji! Shut up!"
An old man was bowing deeply, almost touching the floor.
But Ginji's comment made another man behind him shout.
...The man who yelled at Ginji had a watch on his wrist, from which a chain extended, tying up men in expensive suits.
The chains even went into their mouths, making their voices muffled.
"Well, it's fine."
"Thank you! I'll punish them however you want!"
"Soldiers just follow orders. The ones giving orders should handle it your way."
"Got it! You guys, toilet cleaning duty for ten years! Bread and water only!"
"Toilet cleaning? What's that?"
"Exactly what it sounds like, Lady Nousa!"
"──I didn't know about it either. No wonder Oboroas' toilets are so clean—there's a whole team for it..."
Ginji's face twitched at the old man's words.
Even he, high up in 'Under-Ops,' didn't know about this team.
"Now, I can guide you to the unopened treasure vault, Sir Horace."
"Never seen you so humble..."
"Ginji! Think before you speak!"
"You chain guy is so annoying..."
Ginji sighed.
"Alright, I'll take your offer."
"I'll guide you. Hey you, toss those guys into the cleaning supplies room."
"Yes."
The chain guy nodded at the old man and dragged them away.
Then, Horace followed the old man leading the way.
"The toilet cleaning team... brings back memories. It was popular back then."
"Ms. Artia, you did it too?"
"Yes, for two years."
"That's a long time. What did you do, old lady?"
"I blew up the top half of Oboroas."
"And that got you two years?"
"It wasn't just bread and water, though."
Artia looked nostalgic, probably telling the truth.
She had long red hair, looked elegant, and was a beauty in a dress, but even she cleaned toilets.
"Who ordered Artia to do that?"
"Probably someone from the Glasha family. Not many can boss her around."
"Right! Sir Laris looked so proud when he sent me there!"
"That's weird."
Nousa muttered at the answer, and it was weird.
Horace and Nousa knew Laris Glasha was from a thousand years ago, but they were too tired to investigate.
"Nou-Nou, you can look at me with more disdain, you know?"
"Seriously, the Glasha family's power has gone too far... What's going on in that old lady's head?"
Ginji also looked disdainful.
To him, the old man and Artia were probably his 'superiors.'
Many in the Order didn't know Horace was from the Glasha family.
But the old man was waiting for Horace, so he likely knew, like Ginji.
Calling superiors 'old men' or 'old ladies'... probably because they've known each other a long time.
"...Hm? Did we just pass a barrier?"
"As expected, Mr. Horace. Only you'd notice this barrier..."
"Big brother, what barrier?"
"It blocks vibrations. Physically, you can't tell what's happening inside."
"Heh..."
Nousa was impressed, but Ginji looked at Artia.
Artia nodded back.
"We just entered the 'Under-Ops' area. Complicated, right?"
"Yeah. What's Under-Ops?"
"In the Order, there's 'Special Ops' and 'Under-Ops.' Both are secret from regular departments."
"And under-Ops is part of Special Ops, Ginji and I."
"...So, if you guys're in Special Ops, you know about 'my' stuff."
"Yeah. Me, Artia, the chain guy, and three others are Under-Ops. Only six of us total."
"Two more, huh. What does Special Ops do?"
Special Ops handles 'special missions.'
They take orders directly from the Order's top leaders, keeping everything hidden.
Regular departments stop demi-humans from infiltrating human society.
They train people, manage gear, track demi-humans, and use force when needed.
So, Special Ops might not deal with demi-humans.
"There are 16 of us in Special Ops. Our mission from the 'Head' is to prepare for a certain dragon's revival."
"A certain dragon?"
"We don't know yet. But we've found clues and know it's powerful, so we're getting ready."
"...I see. What about Under-Ops?"
"Their main activity is in human society, not the demi-human territories. Honestly, it's been a while since I've been back at headquarters myself."
"Huh..."
"Horace... That guy with the chains—he's seriously amazing. Once he establishes a link with a chain, he can control it anytime, anywhere."
"What do you mean, Ginji?"
"For example, if he's linked to a chain and you have carbon paper, you can receive his commands even if you're on the opposite side of the planet. And if you move the chain, he can sense it too."
"No matter where you are?"
"Yeah, I've been to really far-off places, but the link never broke. His skill is incredible, but he's not the brightest, so he's got that old monster backing him up."
...Horace thought about it.
"So, the 'Head' isn't usually here at headquarters, right? It doesn't matter if he's not smart—as long as he's around, his orders come through directly. And..."
"...My apologies for not introducing myself earlier. Call me Lucibes."
"So, Lucibes is here to take charge when the Head's away."
"Plus, that old monster handles Special Ops management too."
"Sounds tough."
"Don't worry, Nou-Nou. An old man like that is best used until he's worn out."
"I'll beat you up later."
....
"Is it normal in Under-Ops for subordinates not to show respect to their superiors?"
"Well, that's not wrong."
Is that how it works?
